The O2 Arena in London has gone vegan, especially for Billie Eilish.
The O2 is one of the most well-known venues in the United Kingdom. Some of the world’s most successful performers perform there on a regular basis. Eilish will perform six times at the arena as part of her Happier Than Ever international tour in June.
Eilish is a committed vegan who is vocal about the need to address the climate problem. In fact, the singer’s whole tour has been devoted to increasing environmental awareness. It features its own Eco Village where fans can learn about climate change, as well as a partnership with Maggie Baird’s plant-based food enterprise Support + Feed.
The meat sector contributes significantly to the climate catastrophe, accounting for 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and being a major source of habitat degradation and deforestation.
The O2 has agreed to remove animal products from the venue for Eilish’s tour dates.
“Within The O2 arena, together with our catering partner, Levy’s, we have committed to go 100 percent vegan on food throughout the arena for the Billie Eilish residency. This includes a range of vegan food offerings on concessions and the removal of certain items,” the website reads.
It goes on to say that the majority of the drinks would be vegan, and that all dairy milk will be replaced with plant-based alternatives.
The venue has also announced that its bracelets would be made of PET fabric rather than plastic starting this month.
Acting on Climate Change
The O2 is also organizing a climate awareness event called Overheated Live in its corporate event space Indigo on the days of Eilish’s stay.
The event will be introduced by Eilish and her brother Finneas, and will feature presentations from famous campaigners such as climate activist Vanessa Nakate and sustainable fashion advocate Samata Pattinson.
