Eat Just Has Made History Once Again With GOOD Meat

Eat Just made history in 2020 when it became the first firm in Singapore to sell cultured chicken to the general public. However, GOOD Meat, the company’s cultured meat branch, is only getting started. It has agreed to build the world’s largest bioreactors for the production of cultured meat.

The ten bioreactors, which are essentially enormous vats, will be located in the United States, will span four stories, and have the capacity (250,000 liters) to create up to 30 million pounds of cultured meat. (Cultured meat, also known as lab-grown, cell-based, or cultivated meat, is produced in a laboratory from cells.) It does not necessitate animal slaughter.)

GOOD Meat has partnered with ABEC to construct the bioreactors. Engineered biotechnology process solutions are the company’s specialty. The new facility is expected to be operational by 2024, with full capacity by 2030.

Slaughter-Free Meat

The meat industry is currently unsustainable. It accounts for 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, is the largest source of deforestation, and annually slaughters billions of animals. Cultured meat uses far fewer resources and, as a result, has a substantially lower environmental and animal effect.

In the new bioreactors, GOOD Meat will start by generating cultured chicken and beef. The goal is to eventually provide slaughter-free food to millions of people in the United States.

At the moment, Singapore is the only country that has given cultured meat regulatory approval. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the United States, on the other hand, are actively collaborating to figure out how to monitor and regulate the sector.

Eat Just’s CEO, Josh Tetrick, acknowledged to the Guardian that the company had filed an FDA application. He also stated that the corporation does not know when approval will be granted. He is confident, however, that slaughter-free beef will contribute to the development of a more sustainable, ethical, and modern food system.

“I think our grandchildren are going to ask us why we ate meat from slaughtered animals back in 2022,” Tetrick added.
