Vegan Camp Out Is Almost Here

Launched over a summer weekend in 2016, Vegan Camp Out has grown to be the world’s largest vegan camping festival, with last year’s sold-out event attracting over 11,000 people from nearly forty different countries. This year’s camp out, being held in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, is partnering with Viva, the UK’s leading vegan and animal rights charity, with a large portion of the proceeds going towards supporting their campaigns.

The event, running from July 15-18, promises four days and three nights filled with various talks, live music, after parties, as well as yoga/meditation classes and workshops. There will also be over 60 vendors offering some of the UK’s best vegan food, with gluten and raw options available as well.

Within the main arena, there will be a stage for talks, a music stage, a mind/body stage for yoga, meditation, fitness and health classes, and an activism stage with talks and workshops throughout the weekend. Headline speakers include writer, ‘Earthling Ed’, British reality star, Lucy Watson, comedian Simon Amstell, as well as vegan pro-body builder, Nimai Delgado, VBites founder, Heather Mills, and chef, Gaz Oakley, the ‘Avant Garde Vegan’, among others. All talks will be accompanied by a BSL interpreter, and a specific viewing area has been set aside for disabled patrons. There will be different musical acts throughout the day, and after parties with DJs held from 10pm-1am each night. 

Everything on site is open to all ages, while a special family area, hosted by Primary Veducation, will offer activities, games and crafts for children. Families will also be able to avail of a families-only camping field, while there will also be a designated quiet camping area, as well as one for disabled attendees situated closer to the arena.

Various efforts are also being made to encourage zero/low impact waste, with at least one of the talks of the weekend being on the subject, while vendors are also being encouraged to follow a plastic-free policy. Organizers have partnered with local recycling businesses who use non-recyclable waste materials to generate electricity to power their facilities. Lift sharing is also being promoted on the event’s website through Go Car Share, where you can sign up to search for or offer rides to the site.

Vegan Camp Out is sure to be a fun-filled, educational and enjoyable weekend full of activities and delicious food – which will be even better if served with a rarer dose of the British summer sunshine.
