Plant-Based Meat Returns To Tim Hortons With Impossible Sausage

Tim Hortons Plant-Based Meat

Tim Hortons, a Canadian coffee chain, has introduced a new breakfast sandwich and wrap made with plant-based Impossible Sausage. For consumers opting for a meat-free dinner, the two new menu options have been introduced to the chain’s repertoire.

On an English muffin, Tim Hortons’ new Harvest Breakfast Sandwich has Impossible Sausage, egg, cheese, and chipotle sauce. The Harvest Breakfast Wrap is a tortilla wrap filled with egg, cheese, hash browns, and chipotle sauce. Customers can request that the egg, cheese, and chipotle sauce be removed from either of these dishes to make them vegan. You may add tomato, lettuce, and condiments like ketchup or mustard to your order to make it even more unique.

“We’re always considering how we can improve our menu based on feedback and we know many of our guests are looking for a plant-based alternative in their breakfast sandwich that’s equally delicious… The plant-based Impossible Sausage is another craveable option for all our guests —but we’re really happy to be meeting a need for those who had been asking for a plant-based alternative in their Tims breakfast sandwiches and wraps,” stated Chef Tallis Voakes, Director of Culinary Innovation for Tim Hortons.

Tim Hortons and Beyond Meat

Tim Hortons began experimenting with plant-based meat options in 2019 when it tested Beyond Meat’s Beyond Breakfast Sausage in three menu items: a vegetarian Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich and Beyond Meat Farmers Breakfast Wrap, as well as a fully plant-based Beyond Meat Vegan Sandwich. Tim Hortons has more than 5,100 restaurants in Canada, the United States, and around the world.

Beyond Meat began as a limited-time trial at a few locations, but the chain announced a month later that it would spread the goods to all of its approximately 4,000 outlets throughout Canada. Later that year, Tim Hortons said that the vegetarian menu items had had a “particularly positive” response in Ontario and British Columbia, and that it would continue to sell them in both areas. Tim Hortons, on the other hand, eliminated the Beyond breakfast selections from all of its stores in 2020, citing a drop in demand.

Eating Plant-Based at Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons’ plant-based menu selections were severely limited prior to the return of plant-based meat alternatives with the Impossible Sausage. The company announced a new relationship with Chobani in December 2021 to introduce oat milk to all stores for the first time. Chobani’s oat milk is now available in Tim Hortons Canada as part of any hot or iced beverage, while it was previously only available in two limited-time beverages: Cinnamon Caramel Oat Latte and Cinnamon Caramel Oat Cold Brew. Chobani’s oat milk joins Tim Hortons’ other two plant-based milk alternatives on the menu: almond and soy (at select locations).

“We’re happy to be serving Chobani oat beverages and giving our guests another option so they can personalize their coffee and other beverage orders just how they like it,” stated Hope Bagozzi, Chief Marketing Officer for Tim Hortons.

In 2019, the chain also experimented with limited-time lunch choices prepared with Beyond Burger (its first-ever plant-based burger alternative) and vegan JUST Egg at a few locations.
