The US Is Receiving Its First Mars Vegan Milk Chocolate Bar

Mars, the world’s largest confectionery company, is introducing animal-free chocolate in the United States.

Mars is the world’s most well-known chocolate company. In the United Kingdom, it has already released vegan versions of its famous chocolate bars Bounty, Topic, and Galaxy. However, this is the first time it’s offering a dairy-free, environmentally conscious chocolate bar in the United States.

Perfect Day assisted in the development of the new plant-based solution, CO2COA. The food tech firm uses microorganisms to make animal-free milk protein.

Perfect Day’s product is considerably more environmentally friendly than dairy. It uses up to 99 percent less water and emits up to 97 percent fewer greenhouse gasses. As a tribute to the new bar’s ecological qualities, Mars has given it the moniker CO2COA.

Perfect Day’s connection with Mars, according to Ryan Pandya, co-founder and CEO, is critical. “[It’s] a hallmark example of how we’re extending our impact,” he explained.

“Today, companies big and small need to deliver on the needs of their consumers. [They] won’t compromise on taste or the future of our planet.”

Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa is also used in the new chocolate. Paper is used for packing.

Acting Differently

CO2COA is an example of how Mars is striving to “think and act differently,” according to Alastair Child, the chocolate company’s chief sustainability officer.

“From certified cocoa and a reduction in CO2 emissions to animal-free dairy, CO2COA was thoughtfully designed as we work to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across Mars’ full value chain by 2050,” he explained.

Vegan chocolate confectionery is starting to grow in popularity across the world.

It is currently valued at around $467 million. According to Grand View Research, this is predicted to expand at a CAGR of 14.8 percent over the next seven years.

One important aspect driving the market’s rise, according to the business consulting firm, is “increasing acceptance of veganism among consumers.”
