The Vegan Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

You’re ready to visit Hogwarts—or at least the recreation of it at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—with your robes on and wand in hand. Fortunately, there are beverages, treats, and other meals available at The Wizarding World that would satisfy even Crabbe’s (R.I.P.) and Goyle’s seemingly voracious appetites without hurting cows, pigs, chickens, or other food-producing creatures. And now that Universal Studios Florida has heard from PETA and a campaign by The Protego Foundation, patrons can request a vegan version of the famous Butterbeer by asking to hold the foam on the iced or frozen variations!

If you’re a Muggle or a No-Maj, then saddle your Firebolt and pack your trunk because you’re about to travel to the most magical location on earth.

The vegan selections at Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida will be broken down separately from those at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Japan.

Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida

Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes

Has the keeper Filch placed you in detention? Trying to add a little bit of… event to his day? Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes should be your first destination after that. You can discover enough trinkets, devices, and jokes in this place to make Professor Binns’ History of Magic lesson appear entertaining! Be sure to indulge in an edible Dark Mark lollipop as you toast the demise of the Dark Lord.

But before you leave, pick up some dairy-free Puking Pastilles because you might need a justification to skip that transfiguration exam you neglected to prepare for.

The Leaky Cauldron

The renowned Leaky Cauldron is directly across from Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and is the ideal place to refuel before a day of shopping or engaging in combat with the Dark Arts. What to buy and how to make it vegan are listed below:

Food

Irish Stew (vegan beef tips and potato stew served with crusty bread and a cucumber, radish, and tomato side salad)

Shepherd’s Pasty Pie (a beefless crumble and vegetable stew hand pie served with creamy stone-ground mustard dipping sauce, apple beet salad, and potato wedges)

Baked breakfast beans

Grilled tomato

Sautéed mushrooms

Breakfast potatoes

Garden salad with Italian dressing and croutons

Minted peas

Root vegetables

Vegetable platter without the apple-and-beet salad and peasant bread

Drinks

Butterbeer (Make it vegan by ordering the iced or frozen varieties without foam.)

Pumpkin Juice

Tongue Tying Lemon Squash

Otter’s Fizzy Orange Juice

Peachtree Fizzing Tea

Gillywater

Note: The margarine used at the Leaky Cauldron is vegan!

Sugarplum’s Sweetshop

Visit Sugarplum’s sweetshop on the opposite side of Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes if you now wish you could use magic to engorge your stomach. You can buy some delectable vegan candies there, including Candy in a Can, which is packed with delicious watermelon and strawberry candies, Tongueburners Tooth Splintering Strong Mints, which pack a magically potent punch, as well as other treats like Pear Drops, Pineapple Cubes, Fizzy Wizzy, Sherbet Lemons, and more!

Eternelle’s Elixir of Refreshment

Rehydrate with a delightful Gillywater flavored with one of Eternelle’s elixirs after taking in the Diagon Alley theatrical performances of the outstanding Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees! These tiny potions transform any plain bottle of Gillywater into a tasty beverage that may or may not make you feel happy and peaceful, shield you from fire, or cause you to start babbling uncontrollably. These vegan flavor boosters combine to create a fantastic beverage that will keep you energized all day.

Now board the Hogwarts Express and travel to Hogsmeade, which is your next destination. (I hope the Dursleys signed your authorization!)

Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Honeydukes

To satisfy that sweet hunger, hop into Honeydukes like a chocolate frog. Many of the candy in this shop are vegan, similar to Sugarplum’s in Diagon Alley. Grab a jar of Dumbledore’s favorite candy, Sherbet Lemons, or the hot Cinnamon Balls. Other delectable vegan candies include Fruit Slices, Candy Floss, Blood Pops, Sugar Quills, Jumping Snakes, and more.

The Magic Neep

Looking for a nutritious snack for a wizard on the go? Visit one of the The Magic Neep carts in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade. You can restock on extra Gillywater, Pumpkin Juice, and fresh fruit such as oranges, grapes, or watermelon as well as a fresh fruit cup. Try the Shepherd’s Pasty Pie, a hand pie with a flaky, savory pie crust filled with beefless crumbles and vegetable stew, for a great lunch on the go.

The Three Broomsticks

Make sure to stop by the Three Broomsticks for one last lunch before you depart Hogsmeade! The inn offers great vegan meals as well as the most recent Wizarding World rumors:

Food

Mushroom Pie Platter (a stewed jackfruit and mushroom pie served with a cucumber and tomato side salad with lemon thyme vinaigrette dressing)

Fresh garden salad with Italian dressing and croutons

Roasted mixed vegetables (Marinated in a vegan margarine, not butter.)

Roasted potatoes

Corn on the cob (Ask for no butter, please.)

Baked breakfast beans

Grilled tomato

Baked potato (Ask for no butter or sour cream, please.)

Fresh fruit

Old-fashioned steamed oats

Breakfast potatoes

Sautéed mushrooms

Potato wedges

Drinks

Butterbeer (Make it vegan by ordering the iced or frozen varieties without foam.)

Pumpkin Juice

Tongue Tying Lemon Squash

Otter’s Fizzy Orange Juice

Peachtree Fizzing Tea

Gillywater

Remember: Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home, with plenty of vegan alternatives, whether you come back by page or by the big screen—or via Universal Studios—as you leave the park feeling just a little bit more connected to the magical community.
