Punk Rock Vegan Movie – Two Genres Like Peas And Carrots

Punk Rock Vegan Movie by Moby

Punk Rock Vegan Movie is a documentary written and directed by Moby. The film follows the ongoing relationship between the worlds of punk rock and animal rights and how the music became a breeding ground for vegan activism.

Author: Jason Rapp

The documentary starts with a brief history of punk. Then, the evolving relationship between Veganism and the punk/hardcore scene continues. Throughout the movie, we are shown interviews with musicians in which they describe how they came to find Veganism.

Some of the musicians you will hear from are Ian Mackaye, HR, Dave Navarro, Ray Cappo, Andrew Hurley, Tony Kanal, Tim McIlrath, Captain Sensible, and John Joseph. So not only do you hear from people who were and are part of the punk scene. You will also learn the reasons behind their decisions and how they lived on tour. Remember this was a time when there was very little compared to today in available substitutes.

They ate a lot of beans, rice, and pasta. Sadly, there is a dark part to this documentary. There are some explicit images and videos that are intertwined throughout the movie. I am thankful that they are not an overpowering piece that might be shown in plenty of vegan documentaries.  However, the images add to the overall message of the documentary. I believe the documentary not only awakens a nostalgia aspect in some that like the music.

Punk Rock Vegan Movie also provides the ethos of the punk scene and shows why veganism makes sense to be part of it. The looking forward part calls on all of us to not only question everything. It also calls on us to take action for the animals and the environment, as we have an obligation to do so. The movie is available on the movie’s website.

The website has the video embedded from YouTube, which is another method of watching it. If you choose to watch it directly on YouTube, the good news is you can then jump over to the Vkind channel and learn more about great plant-based food by watching the vegan competitive cooking show peeled. You can also download the Vkind app and stay up to date with news and events, and find places to eat while traveling.
