Lizzo Promotes ‘Heavenly’ Vegan Food on TikTok

Lizzo, a vegan singer-songwriter, has once again utilized her vast platform to promote plant-based eating. In recent weeks, the Truth Hurts singer used TikTok to post two vegan dishes with her over 21 million fans.

For more than a decade, the three-time Grammy Award winner has been a vegetarian. Lizzo then turned vegan in June 2020.

The artist, who is famed for her legendary flute solos, recently took to TikTok to brag about her vegan cheesy Takis invention.

Japanese yams, “high protein” tofu, onion, garlic, nutritional yeast, dairy-free parmesan, vegan smoked gouda, spicy sauce, salt, and pepper are among the ingredients. Lizzo pours the cheese sauce over a bowl of plant-based Takis Fuego chips once it’s been mixed.

Lizzo captioned the photo, “EAT YOUR FEELINGS WITH ME.”

Lizzo praised vegan cuisine again two days later on TikTok, which has about one billion monthly active users.

This time, the singer created a vegan chicken Alfredo dish. It was Lizzo’s first time making the creamy meal, which she described as “heaven.”

Lizzo has been openly celebrating plant-based eating since she first became vegan over two years ago, so this isn’t the first time she’s done so. She’s also utilized veganism discussions to combat fat shaming.

Lizzo videotaped herself in her underpants eating a vegan egg sandwich in reaction to fat-phobic remarks on TikTok. “[Shout out] to all my fat vegans – we look as good as we feel… And to the haters, good luck chasing that narrow beauty standard,” she added.

Celebrity Influence

Sharing pro-vegan information on the internet may help mainstream the lifestyle and introduce people to new cuisine and consumption concepts. When you add in the influence of celebrities and other high-profile persons, the impact is amplified.

A Harvard study published in 2015 looked at the impact of celebrities on people’s opinions and habits.

According to the study’s author, academic researcher Julie Doyle, celebrity veganism “offers the potential for a previously stigmatized practice … to achieve mainstream credibility.”

She points out that this might have an impact on the globe.

“Celebrities can act as important intermediaries to help make the complexities of climate change more accessible and relevant to our daily lives. Food is one such area where celebrities can help link the impacts of climate change to our consumption habits… Indeed, as one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, the production and consumption of meat and dairy … is a crucial social practice that requires further interrogation,” Doyle wrote.

In a similar line, according to a 2009 study, one out of every four teens admits to being affected more by celebrities than by individuals they know.
