Five New Vegan Food Finds You Need To Try

Vegan Food Finds

Every week in the realm of vegan food news appears to be more exciting than the one before it, and this week is no exception. This spring, oat milk will be available at a variety of ice cream shops to celebrate the nicer weather. Vegan chicken soup has recently appeared at Juice Press to assist East Coasters shake off the lingering vestiges of winter. We’re also digging all of the vegan cheese news this week, from Violife’s new fromage to Chao Creamery’s queso. Soylent Green is (finally?) a thing in 2022, and it’s (hopefully) vegan. Continue reading to learn more.

1. Violife’s Cheese Wheels

Violife is launching a vegan version of traditional fromage in supermarkets and specialized shops throughout France this week. The new Le Rond (which has been available in various stores since the Christmas season) is a smooth, creamy camembert that is ideal for baking and serving with dried fruit, crackers, and a glass of vegan wine. In addition, the company just launched a vegan Parmesan cheese called “Prosociano” in French shops.

Violife cream cheeses, slices, and shreds are available in 50 countries, and fans in the United States may choose from a broad range of flavors. This year, the company will also introduce its premium Plant Butter to the United States, which will be available in salted and unsalted variations and can be used in a variety of ways, from baking to toasting.

2. Field Roast’s Dairy-Free Queso

Field Roast’s new vegan queso from sibling company Chao Creamery is now available at Sprouts stores nationwide, as well as select Albertsons, Safeway, and Giant locations, because more vegan cheese news is always good news. While vegan queso isn’t exactly a new idea (particularly in home kitchens), Chao Creamery Cantina-Style Plant-Based Queso is unique in that it’s prepared using fermented tofu as the basis.

Field Roast Vegan Queso

“Unlike other plant-based queso products, Chao Creamery Queso is uniquely designed to deliver a creamy, smooth, cheesy flavor experience that mimics traditional queso, solving the consumer need for a dairy-free, authentic queso without compromise… Field Roast products are crafted to bring people together and fulfill the indulgences you crave, and the latest innovation from Chao Creamery is no exception,” Jitendra Sagili, Chief R&D and Food Technology Officer of parent company Greenleaf Foods, said in a statement.

But, actually, you’ll need a lot of tortilla chips to make this.

3. Bruster’s Oat Milk Ice Cream

This week, oat milk is improving two separate types of ice cream. First, Eb & Bean, a frozen yogurt company in Portland, Oregon, is expanding its dairy-free offerings to include oat milk. Dark Chocolate Caramel and Strawberry Banana are the two new oat tastes, which can be made even more decadent with vegan toppings and sauces like Coconut Milk Caramel sauce and Coconut Whipped Cream. The store keeps things unique by rotating its plant-based tastes every four weeks and collaborating on baked goods with local bakery Bakeshop, like vegan frozen yogurt sandwich cookies.

Bruster's Ice Cream

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, founded in Pennsylvania, is also enjoying an oat milk moment. The vegan tastes based on coconut milk were revamped with velvety oat milk. Now, the business rotates 14 oat milk-based vegan flavors at its scoop shops, including Coffee Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, and Mint Chocolate Chip. Bruster’s now has approximately 200 separate sites in 22 states, as well as foreign branches in Guyana and South Korea.

“Our customers’ loyalty and experience are what drives us… We were excited to initially launch our first non-dairy dessert with coconut milk; but today, our new oat milk option offers a superior taste and recipe. We know that many of our customers either follow a strict vegan lifestyle or deal with different dietary restrictions, and it is important for us to be able to offer them something wonderful with the variety of flavors and premium ingredients in which Bruster’s is known,” Bruster’s CEO Jim Sahene said in a statement.

4. Juice Press’ Vegan Chicken Soup

Even though spring has officially arrived, the final vestiges of winter’s frost remain in certain regions of the nation, and nothing soothes the chills like vegan chicken soup. Vegan chicken soup is now available at all Juice Press stand-alone stores, due to a new collaboration between the health brand and vegan chicken manufacturer Daring Foods.

Daring Chicken

“Daring is a pioneer in the plant-based meat industry… Their protein has the taste and texture of white meat chicken with a simple, easy-to-understand ingredient list,” JuicePress said in a statement.

The new soup is prepared with medicinal ingredients including shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, leek, white radish, onions, carrots, garlic, coconut aminos, soybeans, toasted sesame oil, lemon, and ginger, and it comes with a substantial portion of Daring’s juicy vegan chicken cradled in JuicePress’ aromatic broth.

5. Soylent Green

For years, the vegan meal replacement and snack company Soylent has been the brunt of jokes inspired by the 1970s cult classic dystopian film Soylent Green. However, in the year 2022—which also happens to be the year in which the film is set—the business is bringing the joke full circle by releasing a limited-edition Soylent Green flavor of its Squared snack bars.

Soylent Green

Soylent teased its social media followers this week with a smart teaser, asking them to predict the taste of its “as delicious as humanly possible” bars. While the “green” component in the movie was rather gruesome—hint: it’s human bodies—VegNews can confirm that real-life Soylent Green snack bars are Caramel Apple flavored (whew).

“Since our brand’s inception, consumers and fans alike regularly mention the Soylent Green movie and relay widespread confusion when it comes to the alleged connection between our products and the 1973 tale where Earth’s despair is depicted in 2022… With the launch of Soylent Green Squared, we had the opportunity to lean into the joke a bit and just have fun with it while testing out a new ‘mystery’ flavor and sparking chatter among multiple audiences. We’re looking forward to hearing what consumers think—who knows, we may even turn it into a permanent product in the Soylent portfolio someday,” Soylent CEO Demir Vangelov said.
