New Study Shows 75% of Brits Interested in Vegan Cars

Brits Vegan Cars

According to a new poll, the majority of Brits prefer to buy vegan cars.

The Vegan Society recently teamed up with Attest Research to poll 750 UK drivers on their thoughts on vegan vehicles.

According to the data, 75% of respondents want animal products removed from automobiles. Seventy percent said they would be “actively interested” in buying a completely vegan vehicle in the future.

There is currently no automobile that is fully animal-free.

Aside from the apparent leather upholstery, animal materials are frequently used in the construction of everything from tires to the frame. Animal fat toughens the rubber in the former and lubricates the steel in the latter.

Car makers, on the other hand, are adapting to popular sentiment.

Vegan-Friendly Cars

Honda, Citroen, Dacia, and Ford, according to PETA’s vegan vehicle guide, now provide vegan interiors in a variety of models.

Bentley unveiled its latest electric car concept (the EXP 100 GT) in 2020, which included grape leather inside.

Stefan Sielaff, the company’s design director at the time, recognised that public perceptions about animal products were shifting.

“Maybe you eat everything organic, sustainable, vegan, animal-free – and yet we’re using 15 hides of leather for our cars. This is obviously extreme, and things change bit by bit, but some people will want a car that better aligns with their belief system,” he told Robb Report.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed that the VISION EQXX, their next electric concept vehicle, will have mushroom and cactus leather. The interior is lined with vegan silk.

Louisianna Waring, senior insight and policy manager at the Vegan Society, says that British interest in vegan automobiles is “highly encouraging.”

“The automotive industry is taking steps in a more ethical direction. But products from animals can still feature throughout the manufacturing process,” she said.

“It’s pleasing to see that 70 percent of consumers are revving up to see fully vegan cars hit the road in the future.
