It’s The Year of The Vkind Rabbit!

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar, or the second New Moon after the winter solstice. This year, the holiday falls on Sunday, January 22, 2023, which is the start of the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac, or Sheng Xiao. 

The rabbit is one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac which is based on a 12-year cycle, and it is also believed to influence people’s personalities, careers, compatibility, marriage, and fortune. Much like the rabbit that Vkind is proudly linked to, the Year of the Rabbit is generally considered to be associated with gentle, considerate, cautious, friendly, virtuous, and compassionate people.

Lunar New Year is one of the biggest holidays in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population. For two weeks, those celebrating the holiday wear red for luck since it represents strength and prosperity, attend festivals and parades, visit the tombs of their relatives, light paper lanterns, and eat Long Life Noodles, or yi mein, which symbolize longevity. 

The Year of the Rabbit means that we are leaving the chaos of the roaring tiger behind in 2022 for the peaceful rabbit in 2023. We’re moving from strength, vitality, and growth to tranquility, peace, and kindness. The rabbit is considered a social and affectionate creature in Chinese astrology, all traits associated with compassionate vegans. 

For Vkind, the rabbit represents perception and awareness.
