Maisie Williams Launches Line of Vegan Leather Handbags

Maisie Williams, an English actress, has collaborated with Coperni, a high-end design house, to manufacture vegan apple leather purses.

The 24-year-old actress, who is best known for her role as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, revealed the partnership on social media.

“Based on [Coperni’s] iconic ‘swipe bag’, our new edition is made from apple leather and comes with five little apple sticker pins for you to customize yourself,” Williams stated on Instagram.

Animal skin, such as calf leather, is frequently used in the designs of the French fashion house. However, Williams, a proponent of sustainable living, pushed for a more ecologically friendly option.

Coperni created the animal-free leather using leftovers from apple garbage. According to the company, it is naturally dried and chemical-free.

The Swipe Bag has a removable body strap that allows it to be used as a crossbody or tote bag.

The products may not appeal to everyone; depending on the design, the bags will cost €495-€595 (USD$560-$674).

“I have loved making this collaboration with Coperni. I hope you love the bags and I hope this pushes more people to both shop and produce with materials that contribute towards a more sustainable future,” Williams stated.

Animal welfare and environmental concerns are driving a rising number of firms to abandon animal skin in favor of vegan substitutes.

Large volumes of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as considerable deforestation and pollution, are attributed to the breeding and rearing of animals, particularly cows, for human consumption.

Leather dust is also a Group 1 carcinogen, which includes cigarettes, asbestos, and plutonium.

Coperni

In an interview with Jing Daily, Coperni’s CEO Arnaud Vaillant disclosed that Bristol-born Williams was heavily engaged in the design process.

“We did everything together. We have done many Zooms and chose the fabrics, the pins, and the colors together… Maisie was choosing everything with us and giving ideas. She was really involved… In the beginning, she inspired us as an actress, but then we discovered the she is so inspiring… I think she is a voice of a new generation, and I feel that she’s bringing not only a community but also strong values to the brand with a sustainable approach. Maisie seems very free, very independent, she carefully selects who she works with. We’re very proud. We think she’s bringing a lot to the Coperni brand.” stated Vaillant.
