To Combat the Climate Crisis, Israel’s Government Supports Cell-Cultured Meat

The Israeli government is praising alternative proteins

As part of the government’s National Climate Strategy, President Hertzog said that the government ‘officially’ welcomes alternative protein.

This comes ahead of COP26, the United Nations summit in Glasgow when world leaders will agree on a strategy to combat climate change.

At a reception in Jerusalem this week, Hertzog sampled Future Meat’s cultivated meat products.

Tamar Zandberg and Karine Elharrar, ministers of the environment and energy, were there, as were plant-based firms such as Zero Egg and InnovoPro.

“It is imperative that we take advantage of the international stage in Glasgow to present the extensive Israeli climate tech and solutions we can offer globally in climate innovation and development of alternatives to animal protein. We certainly have much to be proud of,” Hertzog stated.

He claimed to be the “first” president to try the delicacy, which has been hailed by many as the solution to eliminating factory farming. He wrote on Facebook, “It was amazingly delicious.”

Is cellular meat the answer?

Tamar Zandberg, Minister of the Environment, emphasized the urgency of ‘finding solutions,’ particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I ate chicken for the first time in seven years, it was cultivated chicken. This technology will not only change Israel but will contribute to the whole world,” Zanberg added.

The lawmakers’ remarks were warmly received by the Good Food Institute.

“It is not a coincidence that food tech and alternative protein are at the forefront of the Israeli delegation to Glasgow… This Israeli technology is a strategic asset to our country in this era of climate crisis,” stated Managing Director, Nir Goldstein.
