Sunset dining/drinking on the Hudson River and environs in Inwood, Manhattan

September 7, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm GMT-0400

**PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO WED. SEPTEMBER 7**
—————————————————————————–
Imagine yourself dining outside on the beach on a perfect summer evening. You can hear the waves lapping on the shore, watch the birds floating overhead, and appreciate the pristine views of unspoiled rocky hills, all with a cool drink in hand and veg*n food. Think you’re on a tropical island? Think again! This is northern Manhattan! 🙂

For those who made the trek up to Inwood in the fall for our last food crawl, this meetup is something completely different. While last time we could barely see the Hudson River from Inwood Hill Park, this time we will be right on the river, so close you can practically reach out and touch the water! And the best part is, since the sun sets much later in summer, while we dine/drink al fresco, we will get to watch the beautiful colors play across the lovely Palisades of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

Finally, as if world-class Hudson River views were not enough, for those who wish to stick around, we will visit another trendy veg*n-friendly place located on the Dyckman strip to round out the evening. Our plan is to eat outside at each location.

***Note: All of the establishments are vegan-friendly, but NO* venue is fully vegan. YOU WILL HAVE TO ASK AND FIND OUT AT EACH VENUE WHICH ITEMS ARE VEGAN.**

STOP ONE: 7:00pm – THE HUDSON

This is our main stop and meeting place.

1. **The Hudson** – 348 Dyckman St.
menu: [https://www.toasttab.com/the-hudson/v3](https://www.toasttab.com/the-hudson/v3)
Facing west to get the best sunset views, The Hudson straddles the northern edge of Fort Tryon Park (of the Cloisters and Medieval Festival fame!) and the southern tip of Inwood Hill Park. Opened in 2019, The Hudson is committed to the Inwood community and frequently hosts events from birthdays and graduations to weddings. In addition to the Palisades, to the south you can see the George Washington Bridge, or as it is affectionately known, the big gray bridge next to the little red lighthouse.

The Hudson has a few veg*n items on their menu. On a recent visit, I enjoyed their veggie burger made from Beyond meat, fries, and cole slaw. Their pita bread is vegan and made an easy substitute for the non-vegan Brioche bun. They also have a hummus platter, chips & guac, empanadas, salads, and sides of rice and beans. And, they have a full bar.

After ordering at one of the convenient kiosks, you can choose your dining location from the river patio, tree deck, river deck, or greenhouse. When your order is ready, you will receive a text to pick it up at the window. The restaurant takes major credit cards and everyone pays for their own meal.

STOP TWO: 8:45pm – THE DYCKMAN STRIP – MAMA SUSHI etc.

Down the street from The Hudson is the trendy part of neighborhood called the Dyckman strip. Located on Dyckman Street between Payson Ave and Broadway, it is home to no less than 9 eating and drinking establishments in 2 blocks. And the best part is, cars are no longer allowed on one of those blocks, allowing diners sit among planters of flowers on the street and enjoy the views of the adjacent RING (Riverside Inwood Neighborhood) Garden.

We will be visiting one of the establishments called MamaSushi.

2. **MamaSushi** – 237 Dyckman St. (bet. Seaman Ave. & Broadway) [https://mamasushi.com/](https://mamasushi.com/)
menu: [https://mamasushi.com/menu/dinner/](https://mamasushi.com/menu/dinner/)
Boasting some of the best Asian-Latino fusion cuisine, MamaSushi on Dyckman is part of a mini chain of restaurants in Manhattan, the Bronx, and New Jersey. But what surprised me the most is the number of labeled vegan items on their menu! There are appetizers like miso vegan tartar, 4 house signature rolls including The Green Giant, a House Bento Box, vegetable tempura, vegetable chofan, salads, and a bunch of sides including garlic tostones (yum!).

**Come join us for a sublime summer sunset over the Hudson River followed by a visit to another local veg*n-friendly establishment.** (And for those who wish to stay out past 10pm, late-night partiers can sample the numerous other places along the trendy Dyckman Strip.)

**Train Directions:** Take the A train to Dyckman Street and walk the 5 or so blocks (0.4 miles) to the Hudson River. Alternatively you can take the 1 train to Dyckman Street and walk the 4 extra blocks (0.7 miles) to The Hudson.

**See you at 7:00pm in front of The Hudson.**
