Finding the right Primary Care doctor can be difficult, no matter who you are. But when you’re a vegan, it can be even harder. That’s why we created Vegan Primary Care. A telehealth practice licensed to help you in more than 40 states nationwide, providing care from a vegan perspective.
As board-certified physicians, we provide many of the same services as any primary care doctor you see in person – writing prescriptions, ordering imaging or lab tests, and making referrals. But rather than rely only on the Western model of medicine, which manages chronic conditions with pills, we believe in plant-based care that seeks to achieve optimum health through a whole-foods plant-based diet, enjoyable exercise and maintaining quality relationships.
Our focus on individual treatment is evident in everything we do. We value the doctor-patient relationship, and get to know you personally. Initial appointments are 1 hour with 30 minute follow ups so you never feel rushed.
Vegan Primary Care is the creation of Dr. Scott Harrington DO, a board-certified Family Medicine physician with 17 years of experience. Beginning his career using standard methods, he personally adopted a plant-based diet in 2012. Since then he experienced dramatic improvement in his energy levels, exercise endurance and recovery time. His weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, and hormone levels all normalized. This convinced Dr. Harrington to focus on teaching patients what he learned, and the effects were impressive – many patients suffering with chronic illnesses improved dramatically, and many were able to stop all their medications.
Dr. Scott Harrington completed his undergraduate education at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He obtained his Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania in 2003. There he was trained in holistic Osteopathic Principles that a person is an interrelated unit of body, mind, and spirit.
Dr. Scott Harrington, DO then completed his Family Medicine internship and residency training in 2006 at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg North Carolina. There he was classically trained to treat common conditions for all age groups including pediatrics, adolescent, adult and geriatrics in the office and hospital setting. Dr. Harrington was also trained in well woman and obstetric (OB) care.
He later served in the US Army as a Family Medicine Physician to Special Forces Soldiers, working as a Flight Surgeon for pilots and elite paratroopers, Dive Medical Officer trained in hyperbaric chamber operations for Special Forces divers, and being deployed to remote locations in Afghanistan for over 2 years. Dr. Scott Harrington DO has triaged and treated Soldiers wounded in combat and has led over 20 Physicians and Physician Assistants during wartime. He is currently a Colonel in the US Army Reserves and continues to serve with distinction.
Dr. Harrington looks forward to sharing his diverse expertise with patients of all ages and supporting their journey toward optimal health and wellness. He’s passionate about minimizing the impact of aging, illness, and injury to help patients stay as active and healthy as possible throughout their lives. He is currently accepting new patients and welcomes them to Vegan Primary Care.
