SUMMARY:Vegan Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Please join us online for a peaceful half-hour of vegan-oriented meditation and mindful sharing offered by [meetup.com/mindfulvegans](https://www.meetup.com/mindfulvegans) group based in California led by Dave Simon. \nWe’ll meditate together in silence for 15 minutes\, then share brief thoughts on a topic related to compassion\, mindfulness or veganism. Our aim through this practice is to cultivate greater internal peace and presence\, and to bring greater mindfulness and compassion to our interactions with the external world and all its inhabitants. \nPlease note that while our route to mindfulness and compassion generally follows a vegan path\, all are welcome – vegan\, vegan-curious\, and vegan-supportive. \n**Please note these important details:** \n* As a security precaution\, you must be signed in to a Zoom account to join the meeting. Zoom accounts are free at [www.zoom.us](https://www.zoom.us/) (click signup) and you’ll need to log in there BEFORE joining the meditation. If this is your first time\, please register at that link in advance because doing so takes a few minutes.\n* Please use a computer or tablet\, as some Zoom features don’t work on a phone\, and phones in general don’t work well for our Zoom Meetups.\n* Talking during the discussion is completely optional\, but to help reduce trolling we ask that all participants keep their webcams on (and stay on webcam) during the entire session.\n* Meditation begins promptly on the hour\, so please arrive on time. When you enter\, you’ll see a meditation timer counting down from 15 minutes – that’s your cue to begin meditating silently (or listen to your own guided meditation). We don’t provide meditation instruction\, but the basics are easy to learn through various online resources such as those [here](https://www.mindful.org/how-to-meditate/) and [here](https://www.wikihow.com/Meditate).\n* While we officially end at the half-hour mark\, depending on the number of people sharing\, we may run later. If that happens\, please feel free to stay or leave any time after the half-hour mark as you choose.\n* The Zoom link will be displayed on the Meetup event page after you RSVP. We’ll also send the Zoom link and discussion topic in a reminder email the day of the event. If you’d like to receive this reminder email\, please keep your Meetup notification settings [turned on](https://www.meetup.com/account/comm/). \nAny questions or comments? Please use the “Comments” section on the event page.

Zoom accounts are free at [https://www.zoom.us](https://www.zoom.us/) (click signup) and you’ll need to log in there BEFORE joining the meditation. SUMMARY:SPECISISM Film Discussion And Q&A With The Film Director
DESCRIPTION:Join us for SPECISISM film screening and discussion! \nThis film is a journey into the hidden world of factory farming\, but it explores beyond that. Interviews with animal rights organizations\, philosophers\, and men and women on the street lead to the question of whether humans are superior to nonhuman animals\, and – if so – why they are. Mark DeVries (Director\, Producer\, Cinematographer) will be joining us for a special guest Q&A! \nThe way this works is that everyone watches the film on their own BEFORE the event\, then we meet on zoom to discuss. The zoom link will be visible for everyone who RSVP for the event. We break everyone out into randomized small groups of around 4 or 5 people\, give them a discussion prompt\, and give them about 20 minutes or so to discuss in their randomized groups. We will do multiple rounds of small group discussion with different groups and different prompts. This gives everyone an opportunity to meet new people and hear a variety of voices and perspectives throughout the night. Finally\, we will end with the special guest Q&A! \nHere is a link to where you can watch the film for free: [https://watch.unchainedtv.com/documentaries/videos/speciesism-the-movie-director-s-cut](https://watch.unchainedtv.com/documentaries/videos/speciesism-the-movie-director-s-cut)\n**PLEASE WATCH THE FILM ON YOUR OWN PRIOR TO THE EVENT!** \nThe film screening and discussion is organized by [Community Documentary Night](https://documentarynight.wordpress.com/)\, based out of Atlanta\, Georgia with the purpose of giving people an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on a wide range of topics with people from various backgrounds. In addition to RSVP for the event on the Meetup event you may also RSVP on their [Eventbrite page](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/special-virtual-documentary-night-tickets-722513827307)\, if you wish for Community Documentary Night to get in touch with you. \nThe event is posted in the multiple meetup and other groups so expect much more people at the discussion than you see on the RSVP list. \nDo not forget to invite your friends and family! \nAny questions or comments? Please use “Comments” section on the event page.
