SUMMARY:Walking Tour of The High Line and Vegan Picnic Dinner
DESCRIPTION:On September 21\, 2014\, the highly-anticipated Section Three of New York’s new and magnificent High Line Park was finally opened to the public. A drumbeat of excitement accompanied its construction\, because this final High Line section swerves towards the Hudson River and affords dramatically beautiful views of the Hudson. \nOn March 15\, 2019\, the even-more-highly-anticipated **Hudson Yards officially opened. And it is precisely at the northern end of the High Line.** \n**Please join us as we tour the whole length of High Line Park\, including Hudson Yards and the new High Line Park Section Three\, with its stunning Hudson River views. After the tour\, join us for a vegan picnic dinner.** \nFrom Wikipedia: “The High Line (also known as the High Line Park) is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) New York City linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line. Inspired by the 3-mile (4.8-kilometer) Promenade plantée\, a similar project in Paris completed in 1993\, the High Line has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway and rails-to-trails park.” \n“Section 1 (Gansevoort Street to West 20th Street) opened to the public on June 9\, 2009. Almost exactly two years later\, on June 8\, 2011\, Section 2 (West 20th Street to West 30th Street) was opened. And finally\, on September 21\, 2014\, the third and northernmost section on the park\, the High Line at the Rail Yards\, opened to the public.” \n**For those of you who have never attended one of our Meetup events:** this is an incredibly friendly and welcoming group. We are delighted to meet you and welcome you to our group. \n**Where to Meet: We will meet at the High Line South Entrance\, at the southern tip of the Highline\, on the NW corner of Washington St. & Gansevoort St. You will see a big sign that says “High Line” and you will see stairs leading up to the High Line. We will meet at the bottom of those stairs. We will meet there at 7:00pm\, wait until 7:10pm\, and then walk up the stairs to the High Line. Don’t be late!** \n**Vegan Picnic Dinner: We will walk the full length of the High Line\, ending at Hudson Yards (which is at the High Line’s northern tip). At Hudson Yards\, there is a great vegan Mexican restaurant – Jajaja. There is also a Whole Foods supermarket\, and a few other vegan options. Purchase some vegan food wherever you like (or bring your own if you prefer)\, and then join us for a vegan picnic dinner at the Manhattan West picnic area.** \n**Train Directions:** Take the **A\, C\, E or L Trains to 14th Street** (& 8th Avenue). Walk from 14th Street & 8th Avenue to the High Line South Entrance\, at the corner of Washington St. & Gansevoort St. We’ll meet at the High Line entrance at the bottom of the stairs (street level). \n***Arrive between 7:00pm and 7:10pm. Don’t be late!*** Join us for this delightful summer evening stroll\, tour\, and vegan picnic dinner. \nDavid
