SUMMARY:RESCHEDULED Vegan Trekkers Hike: Burke Lake Park\, VA. Easy 4.7 Mi
DESCRIPTION:[RESCHEDULED] Please join us for an easy walk around Fairfax County’s Burke Lake Park. The 4.7 mile flat\, paved trail offers lovely views of the lake and a quiet contemplative place to enjoy a leisurely social hike. \nThis hike is rated as easy based on flat terrain and minimal obstacles. We’ll be sharing the trail with other hikers\, runners and bicyclists and ask that folks walk two abreast\, allowing others to pass so that we can “share the road”. \nTrail map: https://www.hikingupward.com/OVH/BurkeLake/ \nTransportation: We’ll meet in the parking lot off of the Burke Lake Mini Golf course. From Ox Road\, Fairfax Station\, VA\, turn into the entrance to the park on Burke Lake Park Road\, then make a left at the Information Center. There is a $10 fee for non-Fairfax County residents on weekends (April – October only). If you can offer a ride\, please post in the “comments” section with metro station or other accessible location for pick up. Carpooling is a great way to meet people and help the environment! \nDog friendly?: Yes. Please keep your dog leashed at all times. \nBathroom Facilities/Water: Located at the Information Center at the start of the hike\, and at the Marina at the end of the hike. Please carry plenty of water! \nFood: Bring your own vegan snack and (non-alcoholic) beverage to enjoy after the hike at the picnic area near the marina. \nWeather: Be prepared! We will hike rain or shine\, but if conditions pose a danger\, we’ll cancel the hike and post a notice in the “comments” section. We suggest that hikers wear comfortable footwear and suitable clothing made from quick-dry\, synthetic fabrics\, as cotton can lead to uncomfortable blisters and life-threatening hypothermia in case of inclement weather. \n*Please read The 10 Essentials of Hiking: https://americanhiking.org/resources/10essentials/ * \nPets: When hikes are organized in dog-friendly areas\, hikers are invited to bring their pet(s). However\, dogs are the sole responsibility of the owner(s) who brought them; should be up-to-date on their vaccinations & in possession of the relevant tags; and should be under the control of their owner(s) at all times. Dogs that demonstrate consistently aggressive or otherwise out-of-control behavior will be banned from future hikes. Owners should come prepared to dispose of their dogs’ waste in appropriate receptacles. \nAlcohol/Smoking/Intoxicants: Use of intoxicants such as alcohol\, cigarettes and/or illegal substances is banned during the hikes. \n*** \n**Update Your RSVP** \nOut of respect for others interested in attending this limited-space event\, please update your RSVP promptly as your schedule changes. \n**VSDC: More Than A Meetup** \nWe are so glad to have you as part of The Veg Society of DC Vegan Meetup group\, and we enjoy seeing you at our events. Did you know that VSDC is a nonprofit organization with membership benefits? \nWith VSDC membership\, you will save money at area restaurants and businesses\, attend VSDC member-only events\, and\, most importantly\, support us as a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through community building and education centered on the benefits of a vegan diet and lifestyle. \nThe membership fee is minimal\, but the impact is significant!
