SUMMARY:Vegan Italian Dinner @ Coletta’s
DESCRIPTION:*****When you arrive\, ask to be seated with the Meetup group\, which will be in the back room. Come any time between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm\, stay as long or short as you want. Arriving at 7:00 or 8:00 pm is perfectly fine. Everyone pays for their own meal.***** \nJoin us for an experience to dine at one of the newest additions to the group of restaurants from City Roots Hospitality and Chef Guy Vaknin. Sharing from their website\, “Coletta is an intimate vegan and kosher dining experience that offers a fresh culinary perspective to Italian cuisine. Explore distinct flavors from Italy on our menu of brick oven pizzas\, fresh pastas\, unforgettable entrées\, desserts\, and espresso. We look forward to hosting you at Coletta”. \nFor those of you who have never heard of Chef Guy Vaknin\, Guy is a world renowned vegan chef\, celebrated for his distinctive and approachable plant-based cuisine. Together with his wife\, Tali\, they developed their signature vegan sushi and the Beyond Sushi brand was born. After successfully opening multiple Beyond Sushi locations throughout New York City\, the duo continued their vision of creating global vegan cuisine by opening Willow and Coletta. \nAnd Coletta has been well received by the vegan community\, since opening in Gramercy Park this past Valentine’s Day. Reviews on HappyCow.com are shared below.\n**Eligbutler**\n17 Feb 2023\n*“Best Garlic Knots EVER!!!!*\n*Came here for an anniversary with my girlfriend — the food\, the atmosphere\, and the service were all incredible!*\n*We got the Putanesca “Meatballs” and the Crispy “Calamari” for our appetizers\, accompanied by a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Those two appetizers absolutely stole the show of the night. For our entree\, we shared the Wild Mushroom Truffle Pizza (GF) and the Penne alle Vodka (GF). Both were great\, but again\, the appetizers remain in first place for me. After dinner\, I enjoyed a Raspberry Limonchello cocktail\, which was delicious and sweet\, with the perfect amount of alcohol.*\n*The restaurant is a smaller space with a bar\, but seems to go back very far into different rooms. The lighting and decor are charming and comforting. Our server\, Alex\, was so incredible and accommodating\, and even had the time and kindness to ask about our lives and talk to us\, leading into a whole in-depth conversation!”* \n**Kcyogi**\n07 Feb 2023\n*“My new favorite vegan restaurant!*\n*Finally had the chance to dine at Coletta and it far surpassed my vegan expectations! There is an excellent selection of food items to choose from. We ordered family style and tried numerous dishes. Each meal was wonderful. The flavors\, combinations and presentation was impressive. One of the top vegan places with great vegan pizzas! The ambiance was very pleasant and comfortable. The staff was nice and helpful too. Great place for a romantic dinner date.”* \nExperience their menu at: [https://www.colettanyc.com/](https://www.colettanyc.com/) \n**We are an extremely friendly and welcoming group.** To our new members: Come to the meetup and make new friends! We are delighted to meet you\, and to welcome you to the group. \nSo come and experience the Vegan Italian Restaurant for yourself. \nStefan \n*****When you arrive\, ask to be seated with the Meetup group\, which will be in the back room. SUMMARY:VSDC LGBTQIA+ Board Games and Vegan Food: The Board Room DC
DESCRIPTION:VSDC is so excited for the second meeting of the LGBTQIA+ subgroup! Because it is so important to have community\, let’s gather again to celebrate our intersection of queerness and vegan lifestyles. We invite vegans and veg-curious folks to come play board games at The Board Room DC. The event is on Saturday May 13th from 1pm to 3pm. We will all bring or order vegan food from local restaurants (this venue only serves drinks) and enjoy the fun atmosphere. This place rents board games for $2\, so it should be an entertaining and affordable time for us to continue to build memories together! \nWHAT: Drinks and lunch at The Board Room in DC. This is part of a series of events once a month: a great way to patronize local business\, enjoy delicious vegan food\, play games together\, and meet LGBTQIA+ vegans/veg-curious people. \nFEE: It’s free to show up\, and board games are $2 to rent. They have an extensive menu of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks so please support the establishment (and drink responsibly). \nFOOD: None there\, but plenty of vegan restaurants nearby to order from or bring food from – to enjoy while playing board games. The Board Room has a strict policy of no outside drinks of any kind\, but food is fine and welcome. \nWHO: All VSDC and/or meetup members ages 21+ are invited. This is technically a bar\, but they do serve non-alcoholic beverages. Bring fellow queers\, even if they’re not vegan. It’s always fun to extend community! \nWHEN: Saturday\, May 13th\, 1pm-3pm \nWHERE: The Board Room DC\, 1737 Connecticut Ave NW\, Washington\, DC (in the Kalorama neighborhood) \nPARKING: There is street parking\, but it might be tricky. The nearest Metro stop is Dupont Circle\, which is only a three-block walk from the venue. \n***Please RSVP quickly\, so we can make a reservation with an accurate head-count.*** \n*In an effort to reduce no shows for space-limited events\, we are now tracking those who fail to show up and do not change their RSVP beforehand. After three strikes you’re out – meaning that you will not be able to attend future space-limited VSDC events. It is unfair to those on the waitlist and to the restaurant when there are no-shows.* \nWhen you sign up to join\, you automatically acknowledge [VSDC’s Liability Waiver](https://vsdc.org/activity-waiver/) \nBy coming to this event\, we expect you to follow the code of conduct found at [Policies – VSDC – Veg Society of DC](https://vsdc.org/policies/) \n*** \nVSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle. SUMMARY:VSDC Book Club discusses "What the Constitution Means to Me" (online)
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me. The discussion takes place online via zoom. \nAt 15\, Heidi Schreck started traveling the country\, taking part in constitutional debates to earn money for college. In this play\, she traces the effect the Constitution has had on four generations of women in her family. \nOur usual requirement is to read at least half the book but for this meeting only please try to read the whole book (only 96 pages) or watch the [film version of the play](https://www.amazon.com/What-Constitution-Means-Me-Official/dp/B08KRNSLB6)\, which is essentially the same text. Also RSVP at least two days before the meeting. \nPeople who RSVP yes will get the zoom details to join the discussion the weekend before the meeting. The details will not be posted on meetup. \nThe VSDC Book Club began meeting online in March 2020 (previously we met in vegetarian restaurants in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia). We read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months\, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 30 years!) visit: [https://vsdc.org/Book-Club](https://vsdc.org/Book-Club)\nOr contact Beth through meet up: [http://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817](http://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817) \nDon’t be a no show! If your plans change\, update your RSVP.
