SUMMARY:Vegan Italian Dinner @ Coletta’s
DESCRIPTION:*****When you arrive\, ask to be seated with the Meetup group\, which will be in the back room. Come any time between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm\, stay as long or short as you want. Arriving at 7:00 or 8:00 pm is perfectly fine. Everyone pays for their own meal.***** \nJoin us for an experience to dine at one of the newest additions to the group of restaurants from City Roots Hospitality and Chef Guy Vaknin. Sharing from their website\, “Coletta is an intimate vegan and kosher dining experience that offers a fresh culinary perspective to Italian cuisine. Explore distinct flavors from Italy on our menu of brick oven pizzas\, fresh pastas\, unforgettable entrées\, desserts\, and espresso. We look forward to hosting you at Coletta”. \nFor those of you who have never heard of Chef Guy Vaknin\, Guy is a world renowned vegan chef\, celebrated for his distinctive and approachable plant-based cuisine. Together with his wife\, Tali\, they developed their signature vegan sushi and the Beyond Sushi brand was born. After successfully opening multiple Beyond Sushi locations throughout New York City\, the duo continued their vision of creating global vegan cuisine by opening Willow and Coletta. \nAnd Coletta has been well received by the vegan community\, since opening in Gramercy Park this past Valentine’s Day. Reviews on HappyCow.com are shared below.\n**Eligbutler**\n17 Feb 2023\n*“Best Garlic Knots EVER!!!!*\n*Came here for an anniversary with my girlfriend — the food\, the atmosphere\, and the service were all incredible!*\n*We got the Putanesca “Meatballs” and the Crispy “Calamari” for our appetizers\, accompanied by a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Those two appetizers absolutely stole the show of the night. For our entree\, we shared the Wild Mushroom Truffle Pizza (GF) and the Penne alle Vodka (GF). Both were great\, but again\, the appetizers remain in first place for me. After dinner\, I enjoyed a Raspberry Limonchello cocktail\, which was delicious and sweet\, with the perfect amount of alcohol.*\n*The restaurant is a smaller space with a bar\, but seems to go back very far into different rooms. The lighting and decor are charming and comforting. Our server\, Alex\, was so incredible and accommodating\, and even had the time and kindness to ask about our lives and talk to us\, leading into a whole in-depth conversation!”* \n**Kcyogi**\n07 Feb 2023\n*“My new favorite vegan restaurant!*\n*Finally had the chance to dine at Coletta and it far surpassed my vegan expectations! There is an excellent selection of food items to choose from. We ordered family style and tried numerous dishes. Each meal was wonderful. The flavors\, combinations and presentation was impressive. One of the top vegan places with great vegan pizzas! The ambiance was very pleasant and comfortable. The staff was nice and helpful too. Great place for a romantic dinner date.”* \nExperience their menu at: [https://www.colettanyc.com/](https://www.colettanyc.com/) \n**We are an extremely friendly and welcoming group.** To our new members: Come to the meetup and make new friends! We are delighted to meet you\, and to welcome you to the group. \nSo come and experience the Vegan Italian Restaurant for yourself. \nStefan \n*****When you arrive\, ask to be seated with the Meetup group\, which will be in the back room. SUMMARY:International Vegan Earth Day (4/22) March #ClimateCrisisMarch
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with VHOT NYC team – ***SAVE THE DATE and Join us for the International Vegan Earth Day March on Saturday\, April 22\, 2023\, in New York City!*** \nThe Vegan Earth Day March is an INTERNATIONAL grassroots day of action to bring awareness to animal agriculture’s role in causing our current climate and ecological crisis. Animal agriculture is one of the planet’s most destructive and harmful industries. Numerous published studies show that meat and dairy production and consumption are a driving force behind our deadly ecological crisis. **Greenpeace International tweeted – “*Europeans consume around twice as much meat as the global average\, and almost three times as much dairy. We need a massive shift towards more plant based diets especially in Rich meat-eating countries. #Climatecrisis #MeatAndDairy*”** We must act now to ensure the survival of our species and all those that inhabit this planet. \nMany people and governments continue to ignore these facts and we are quickly reaching a point of no return due to the lack of action. On Earth Day\, **Saturday\, April 22\, 2023\,** we will march to demand a societal vegan paradigm shift that normalizes non-violence\, sustainability\, and collective liberation for all earthlings through the immediate development and transition to a plant-based veganic food system. Help us make every day vegan earth day and join us to march for the climate\, and a plant-based future! \n**VEGAN EARTH DAY MARCH Demands:**\n1. Individuals GO VEGAN.\n2. END SUBSIDIES FOR ANIMAL AGRICULTURE\n3.SUPPORT THE PLANT BASED TREATY \n**What to Expect? -** Vegan March will begin at *Barclays Center 614 Atlantic Ave* and end at Maria Hernandez Park(~3.5 miles / 1.5 – 2 hours). Rally w/ speeches in Park at the end of the Vegan March. After Party at House of Yes \n**What to Bring?**\n1. SUMMARY:VSDC Virtual Game Night: Fishbowl
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a VSDC remote game night featuring Fishbowl. Fishbowl is a fun and fast-paced virtual guessing game mash up. \nNote: This game is best played on a desktop or laptop computer. The game room will be opened at 7:50 pm for those who need a little extra time getting set up and then locked at 8:10 pm\, so please be on time. \nHere’s how to play: After everyone navigates over to the website\, https://fishbowl-game.com/\, and puts in the code to join the game\, players are asked to write down a few words or phrases on “cards” that will be guessed later. Players are organized into teams and will alternate turns\, giving clues to their teammates to guess as many cards as possible against the clock. The 3 rounds feature: \nTaboo: Use words to describe the word or phrase on the card\, without any acting or gestures. You cannot use any part of the word or phrase! \nCharades: Without words or sounds\, act and use gestures to communicate the word or phrase on the card. \nPassword: You can say exactly one word to describe the word or phrase on the card\, no more! You’ll rely on your team’s memory and association. \nThe team that guesses the most cards across all rounds wins! \nDon’t worry if you’ve never played Fishbowl. All are welcome and we’ll go over the basic rules at the start of the event. There are additional details and instructions here: https://fishbowl-game.com/ if you would like to (re)familiarize yourself with the game. \nBy signing up for this event you are agreeing to abide by our harassment policy https://vsdc.org/policies/ \nDon’t be a no show! If your plans change\, update your RSVP so that another may attend. \n*** \nVSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle. Sharing food is the bond that brings families together; so it is with VSDC. From simply “breaking bread” to experiencing delicious and nutritious vegan foods from around the world\, we make your journey easier\, enjoyable & meaningful. \nVSDC. Creating communities. SUMMARY:Veg*n Dinner @ Baar Baar NYC #Bowery
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a wonderful Veg*n dinner event @ **BAAR BAAR NYC Restaurant** serving creative\, sophisticated Indian dishes & cocktails in a colorful\, banquette-lined setting. \nMICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View states “This delightful restaurant delivers contemporary Indian cuisine that brings a refined touch to familiar South Asian plates. All thanks are due to Chef Sujan Sarkar\, who landed in NY fresh from his success in San Francisco. Baar Baar may bill itself as a gastropub\, but dining is the focus here. In fact\, its vast\, inventive menu is filled with such delicious condiments\, as if to prove that no detail is too small for this kitchen” \nFor more info :\n**Website** – [http://baarbaarnyc.com/](http://baarbaarnyc.com/) \nor Follow them on Instagram **@baarbaarnyc** \nCome join us at Baar Baar NYC for an evening of delicious veg*n cuisine! Please note that they do have a Vegan Menu. \nGOOGLE REVIEW – 4/5 stars\nA couple of fans reviewed as follows.. \nSandra – “What a fun place…. As a group we tried pretty much every type of entree in their menu. Everyone commented on how delicious their meals were. Most of my party was vegetarian and vegan and they had great options for us. The server was not very attentive and we had to flag them down whenever we needed anything but it was kind of busy so we understood. …” \nForum – “The food here is phenomenal. I don’t think I’ve ever had such creative Indian dishes other than at Junoon. The dishes are so flavorful\, my mouth is watering as I write this review. My favorite dishes are the malai paneer pinwheel\, cauliflower\, avocado and green chickpea bhel\, and the black dairy dal (dal makhani). I also enjoy their chickpea curry . The food can be a bit spicy but if you ask them to make it mild\, they will do so. They also do a great job plating it in a beautiful manner and that just enhances things. They also are willing to make food Jain for you and I really appreciate that kind of flexibility from an upscale Indian restaurant. I’ve been to other upscale places in the city and they get a bit snobbish about it. They also have a separate vegan menu which is a nice addition..” \nFor our new members: this is an incredibly friendly and welcoming group. We are a FUN group. Join us for a stellar evening of lively conversations and great food with fellow vegetarians and vegans. \nEveryone pays for themselves. And Baar Baar takes major credit cards. Easy! \n**Train Directions:** Get to 2nd Ave (F Train) Use the Exit via 2nd Ave & Houston St at NW corner – About 1 min/ 459 ft walk to the venue! \nHope to see you there!\nKarthik 🙂 \nImage courtesy – baarbaarnyc.com

SUMMARY:VeganHood - Spring Picnic - New Harlem Vegan Venue - Limited Attendance
DESCRIPTION:**VeganHood** has opened in Harlem\, to a lot of buzz. **Patch.com** headlines: **”Hot New Harlem Restaurant Aims To ‘Bridge Veganism And The Hood'”.** \nFounded by sisters **Janine Smalls** and **Lanise Herman-Thomas**\, Patch writes that the sisters “**did not expect that they would end up opening one of Harlem’s most popular new restaurants**.” \nCome join us as we check what all the fuss is about\, and see what even non-vegans are celebrating! \n**From the VeganHood site:** \nWe saw a need in our neighborhood for food that was similar to what we grew up eating but instead of it being animals it needed to be 100% plant based. We thought “how could we get people to love vegan food when they believe that all vegans eat are leaves and water? How can we show them that a vegan lifestyle doesn’t have to be bland and that it can be tasty and healthier?” \nWe knew we needed to show people better than we could tell them by creating dishes we ate at home and they themselves would make or order at restaurants. Things like our Saint Nick Fried Chick’n\, soy free mac & cheese\, and deserts like our Oreo puddings\, comfort foods that’s filling and recognizable. \n—————————————– \n**Website for placing pick-up orders (not delivery):** [https://grubhub.com](https://grubhub.com) \n**Vegan Picnic:** A few hours before the event please place your food **pick-up** order in your favorite mobile app. such as Grubhub\, Uber Eats\, Doordash\, etc. We will be carrying out our orders for a picnic in a nearby park. (In case of inclement weather on the day of the event\, we’ll reschedule.) \n**We are an extremely friendly and welcoming group.** To our new members: Come to the meetup and make new friends! We are delighted to meet you\, and to welcome you to the group. \n**Train Directions:** Take the **B\, C\, 2\, or 3 Trains to 116th Street**. VeganHood is located at 2100 Frederick Douglass Blvd. (bet. W. 113th St. & W. 114th St.) \n*****NOTE:** While this event officially starts at 7:00pm\, feel free to get here early and order around 6:30pm or after\, to spread out the order placement. Or get here a little after 7:00pm\, also to spread out the order placement. Or\, you may order while on your way to the restaurant.******* \nMichael

SUMMARY:VSDC LGBTQIA+ Relaunch Dinner: sPACYcLOUd in DC
DESCRIPTION:VSDC is so excited to relaunch the LGBTQIA+ subgroup! Because it is so important to have community\, let’s gather to celebrate our intersection of queerness and vegan lifestyles. We invite vegans and veg-curious folks to come have dinner at sPACYcLOUd Lounge in Adams Morgan DC. The event is on Friday April 7th from 7:15 to 9:15 pm. We will meet and chat\, and enjoy the chill atmosphere. Their entire menu is vegan\, and they have fantastic alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Everyone orders their own food & beverages and pays the restaurant directly. \nVSDC THANKS Sarah Cusack who is now leading our LGBTQIA+ events! \nWHAT: Dinner at sPACYcLOUd Lounge in DC. They can accommodate 50 people. This could be a monthly event on Friday evenings: a great way to patronize a local woman-owned business\, enjoy delicious vegan food\, and meet LGBTQIA+ vegans/veg-curious people in a relaxed and artsy environment.\nFEE: It’s free to show up\, and you can spend however much you’d like on their yummy fare.\nFOOD: Vegan Russian/Ukranian/American\nWHO: All VSDC and/or meetup members are invited with capacity limited to 50 people. Bring fellow queers\, even if they’re not vegan. It’s always fun to introduce people to scrumptious vegan food.\nWHEN: Friday\, April 7th\, 7:15pm-9:15pm\nWHERE: sPACYcLOUd Lounge\, 2309 18th St NW\, Washington\, DC\nPARKING: There is street parking\, but it might be tricky. The nearest Metro is Woodley Park/Adams Morgan\, which is a 15 minute walk from the restaurant. There are also buses that get you a little closer. \nPlease RSVP early\, as we would like to keep the owner aware of how many people to expect. \nIn an effort to reduce no shows for space-limited events\, we are now tracking those who fail to show up and do not change their RSVP beforehand. After three strikes you’re out – meaning that you will not be able to attend future space-limited VSDC events. It is unfair to those on the waitlist and to the restaurant when there are no-shows. \nWhen you sign up to join\, you automatically acknowledge [VSDC’s Liability Waiver](https://vsdc.org/activity-waiver/) \nBy coming to this event\, we expect you to follow the code of conduct found at [Policies – VSDC – Veg Society of DC](https://vsdc.org/policies/) \n*** \nVSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a VSDC remote game night featuring Codenames. SUMMARY:VSDC Book Club discusses "Caste" by Isabel Wilkerson (online)
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of Isabel Wilkerson’s *Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents*. \nWilkerson examines the unspoken caste system — a rigid hierarchy of human rankings — that has shaped America. Linking the caste systems of America\, India\, and Nazi Germany\, she explores eight pillars that underlie caste systems across civilizations. \nTo participate you must read at least half the book—and RSVP at least two days before the meeting. \nThe VSDC Book Club began meeting online in March 2020 (previously we met in vegetarian restaurants in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia). People who RSVP yes will get the details to join the discussion (the weekend before the meeting). The details will not be posted on meetup. \nWe read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months\, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 30 years!) visit: [https://vsdc.org/Book-Club](https://vsdc.org/Book-Club)\nOr contact Beth through meet up: [http://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817](http://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817) \nDon’t be a no show! If your plans change\, update your RSVP.
