SUMMARY:Veg Night Out! - Kimoto Rooftop & Bar\, Brooklyn's First Japanese Beer Garden
DESCRIPTION:Let’s spend a beautiful late spring night with fellow Vegetarians and Vegans at the Kimoto Rooftop & Bar\, Brooklyn’s first Japanese rooftop been garden. **Set atop Downtown Brooklyn’s Sheraton and Aloft hotels on the 24th floor with expansive views.** This will be a perfect location for us to chill and enjoy the evening. \n**From 6:30-9:30pm**\n**Kimoto Rooftop Bar – Japanese Rooftop Beer Garden**\n**216 Duffield Street (Willoughby Street)\, downtown Brooklyn** \n**Zagat:** “Downtown Brooklyn gets its first-ever rooftop beer garden with an Asian twist in Kimoto ([http://www.kimotorooftop.com/](http://www.kimotorooftop.com/))… expect 20 kraft beers (mostly microbrews from Japan)…. this sophisticated rooftop … has pale woods and grays and features a serene rock garden\, a lounge and an expansive roof terrace with Lady Liberty views.” \n**New York Magazine:** “The Japanese surname Kimoto means ‘one who lives beneath the trees’ and that tranquility is the aim of this Downtown Brooklyn venue\, from the creators of Mira Sushi & Izakaya…” \n**The Wall Street Journal:** “The killer views\, from the bar’s location on the 24th floor of the Aloft New York Brooklyn hotel\, are almost irrelevant. For owner Andrew Lee\, the real inspiration for opening the place was his travels through the Far East.” \n**Rooftopcrawl.com:** “Kimoto’s Zen-style design boasts an indoor rock garden and more than 300 sublime plants… Breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty\, Barclays Center\, and Hudson River create a friendly\, casual gathering space.” \nWith all the wonderful vegetarians and vegans who attend each of our events\, every event we do is liked by our members\, but our “Veg Night Out!” events are the most popular of all. People enjoy the fact they can mingle (speak with lots of different people)\, and they love the beautiful venues that we go to. Join us for a stellar evening of lively conversation and lovely surroundings with fellow vegetarians and vegans. \n**We are an extremely friendly and welcoming group.** To our new members: Come to the meetup and make new friends! We are delighted to meet you\, and to welcome you to the group. We’ll have our own section in the club\, and you can get to know all our wonderful members. \nThis event has no cover and no minimum. But please do buy a drink or two\, or as many as you like. For those who do not wish to drink alcohol\, the bar has a full selection of non-alcoholic drinks\, juices\, soda and water. The venue requests that you dress appropriately: business\, business casual or smart casual. \n**Subway Directions:** This venue is conveniently located in Downtown Brooklyn\, near Manhattan. Take the A\, C\, F\, N or R trains to Jay Street-MetroTech\, or the 2 or 3 trains to Hoyt Street. \n**Where to meet:** Our group will be meeting outdoors on the roof. \nCome relax and imbibe drinks (alcoholic or virgin\, however you like ’em) after work with us at Kimoto Rooftop & Bar! \nEddie

The guacamole is also solid. The nachos though really stole the show. They were beautiful and they glittered. Our group was in awe. The tacos were also really delicious\, although I was so stuffed by the end. I also really enjoyed my drink\, Yellow Pineapple. Great music and vibes. From a sustainability perspective they used planet friendly straws and minimal single use items ????looking forward to going back! Shout out to Michael for taking care of our group!.” \nNick Zarazel – “Amazing food and service! They made it an incredibly special experience for my wife’s birthday. SUMMARY:VSDC LGBTQIA+ Marches in the Capital Pride Parade
DESCRIPTION:Happy Pride\, everyone!!! Get your flags and rainbow gear ready~ \nVSDC is so excited to march in the Capital Pride Parade with FARM (Farm Animal Rights Movement) on Saturday\, June 10th! This is the perfect time to celebrate our queerness and encourage kindness for all animals. We have spots available for marchers to come with creative signs and loud voices to extend community and share our love of love.\nThere is no fee for this event\, and there should be plenty of vegan options along the streets. Anyone can come\, no age requirements. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult. \nWHEN: Saturday\, June 10th\, 1:30pm-4ish \nWHERE: Our staging point is 15th St NW & Rhode Island Ave NW by 1:30. The parade starts at 3. We will be getting everyone set up with literature and other things to hand out\, etc. \nPARKING: It’s going to be packed in the city so Metro is highly recommended (or Uber/Lyft). Street parking will be very hard to find but please do follow all parking signs and instructions. \n***Please RSVP quickly.*** \n*In an effort to reduce no shows for space-limited events\, we are now tracking those who fail to show up and do not change their RSVP beforehand. After three strikes you’re out – meaning that you will not be able to attend future space-limited VSDC events. It is unfair to those on the waitlist and to the restaurant when there are no-shows.* \nWhen you sign up to join\, you automatically acknowledge [VSDC’s Liability Waiver](https://vsdc.org/activity-waiver/) \nBy coming to this event\, we expect you to follow the code of conduct found at [Policies – VSDC – Veg Society of DC](https://vsdc.org/policies/) \nLooking forward to seeing you all there! \nvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv \nVSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle. SUMMARY:VSDC LGBTQIA+ Bowling / Bocce and Vegan Food: Pinstripes\, Bethesda MD
DESCRIPTION:VSDC is so excited for the third meeting of the LGBTQIA+ subgroup! Because it is so important to have community\, let’s continue our monthly tradition of gathering to celebrate our intersection of queerness and vegan lifestyles. We invite vegans and veg-curious folks to come bowling at Pinstripes Bethesda. The event is on Saturday June 17th from 4pm to 6pm. This sounds like the kind of fun that could get booked up quickly\, so please RSVP ASAP so we can make a reservation! Bocce courts can hold up to 10 people\, and we can have 8 people to a bowling lane. \nWHAT: Late lunch/early dinner\, bowling\, and bocce at Pinstripes Bethesda. This is part of a series of events once a month: a great way to patronize local business\, enjoy delicious vegan food\, play games together\, and meet LGBTQIA+ vegans/veg-curious people. \nFEE: $10 per person for bocce\, or $20 per person including shoes for bowling. \nFOOD: They have a full vegan menu! Attendees can choose to order some food to share. \nWHO: All VSDC and/or meetup members are invited! Bring fellow queers\, even if they’re not vegan. It’s always fun to extend community! Who doesn’t like bowling? (And if you don’t\, they also have bocce!) \nWHEN: Saturday\, June 17th\, 4pm-6pm \nWHERE: Pinstripes Bethesda\, 11920 Grand Park Avenue\, Bethesda\, MD. (We chose this location because there is a Metro very nearby\, unlike their Georgetown location. The nearest Metro stop is North Bethesda\, which is only a four-block walk from the venue.) \nPARKING: There is street parking; please be sure to read and follow all parking signs and instructions. \n***Please RSVP quickly\, so we can make a reservation with an accurate head-count.*** \n*In an effort to reduce no shows for space-limited events\, we are now tracking those who fail to show up and do not change their RSVP beforehand. SUMMARY:Vegan Dinner @ Spicy Moon at Bowery Restaurant #SoHo
DESCRIPTION:***It is perfectly all right to arrive at 7:30pm or 8:00pm\, though arriving at 6:30 or 7:00 is ideal. The group will be hanging out until 9:00pm at the venue.*** \nJoin us as we’ll be visiting **Spicy Moon at Bowery**\, at their recently opened location\, with 11\,000 square feet and seating capacity of almost 200 seats\, Spicy Moon at Bowery is by far the largest vegan restaurant in New York City. Our group hosted Meetup events at Spicy Moon’s original location at 328 E 6th St way back in March 2019. Spicy Moon certainly has come a long way and we would love to support their new venture. \nAs EATER New York states ” For spicy Sichuan fit for vegans: Getting Sichuan food as a non-meat-eater can sometimes be frustrating\, given that many of the cuisine’s staple dishes almost always include meat. But at Sichuan restaurant Spicy Moon\, nothing is off limits. Aside from the “Beyond Beef” in the dan dan noodles and a few other items\, the dishes focus on actual vegetables and tofu\, rather than faux meat replacements. The three-cup mixed vegetables include flavorful cauliflower\, broccoli\, and peppers; Brussels sprouts feature numbing Sichuan peppercorns\, and vegetable wontons come floating in an actually spicy chili oil..”. \nFor more info :\n**Website** – [https://www.spicymoonnyc.com/](https://www.spicymoonnyc.com/)\nor Follow them on Instagram **@spicymoonnyc** \nCome join us at Spicy Moon at Bowery for an evening of delicious vegan cuisine! \nI want to share some recent **Google reviews – Rating 4.6/5** \nYolanda Zhou – “For someone who normally doesn’t eat a lot of vegan food\, I thought Spicy Moon was delicious. The flavors are great and all the dishes were prepared really well. My favorites were the brussel sprouts and crispy eggplant. We had a large group and they were also very accommodating and friendly” \nErica A – “A close friend of mine is a vegetarian and was visiting New York for the first time\, so I wanted to meet her somewhere where she could enjoy most if not all the things on the menu. Spicy Moon fit the bill and was absolutely delicious (even for us omnivores)! The dan dan noodles were our favorite by a long shot\, but I also really enjoyed the General Tso’s mushrooms and the salt & pepper mixed veggies. I’m not often in this area\, but I would totally come back here if given the chance…” \n**Join us from 6:30pm-9:00pm**\n**Spicy Moon at Bowery**\n**265 Bowery · New York\, NY** \nWith all the wonderful vegetarians and vegans who attend each of our events\, people enjoy the fact they can mingle (speak with lots of different people)\, and they love the beautiful venues that we go to. Join us for a stellar evening of lively conversation and lovely surroundings with fellow vegetarians and vegans. \n**For our new members:** this is an incredibly friendly and welcoming group. We’ll be hanging out outdoors by the patio area\, and you can get to know all our wonderful members. \nDress comfortably! Spicy Moon at Bowery will be the perfect location for us to chill and enjoy the early summer evening. \n**TRAIN DIRECTIONS:** Take the **F train** to **2nd Ave** Subway Station\, (Exit via Chrystie St & Houston St at SW corner) just 0.1 mile/ 3 min walk. \nJoin us for a fun and relaxed festive evening socializing with fellow vegetarians and vegans. \nWe would love to have you join us! \nKarthik :)) \n***It is perfectly all right to arrive at 7:30pm or 8:00pm\, though arriving at 6:30 or 7:00 is ideal. SUMMARY:Vegan Picnic and Take-Out from Beyond Sushi’s Midtown Location
DESCRIPTION:***Please arrive at Beyond Sushi (62 West 56 St.) (off 6th Ave.\, between 5th & 6th Aves.) to pick-up or place your take-out order. It is highly recommended to [pre-order online](https://beyondsushi.square.site/) so as to eliminate wait time and minimize impacting their Friday night rush hour. To handle the anticipated large turn-out\, we will be taking our meal to a nearby urban park (Fisher Park\, 125 West 55th Street\, bet. 6th & 7th Aves.) which can accommodate our large group.*** \nFor those of you who have never heard of Beyond Sushi\, **Chef Guy Vaknin** came up with the idea for his vegan Sushi twist while he was the Executive Chef at his father’s kosher catering company\, Esprit Events. Focusing on creative ways to operate the catering company’s Sushi station\, in a kosher world where you can’t mix fish and meat\, Chef Guy came up with the idea of incorporating healthy fruit\, vegetable\, and whole grain based ingredients. Over a period of several years and after seeing a demand for healthy vegan food in the New York Market\, the idea grew from there and the foundation for Beyond Sushi (The Green Roll) was born. Esprit Events is also where Guy met his wife\, Tali\, who together own the Beyond Sushi brand and where Tali Vaknin\, with extensive experience in public relations and event planning\, initiated their catering division. \nChef Vaknin was not a vegetarian or vegan prior to opening the restaurant\, but according to a Q&A on his website **“I was ignorant about this ‘vegan’ industry. I sat down and learned. What am I doing? I like to watch documentaries. That’s one of my hobbies. And I’ve seen all the documentaries about veganism – Forks Over Knives\, Earthlings\, etc. I felt like it was something I should try. It felt great. It changed my life completely. It became part of my lifestyle. Now I am fully vegan”.** \nBehind the counter looks like a salad bar\, but instead of a collection of lettuce and tomatoes\, you see yellow pickles\, fresh green avocados and forbidden black rice or their 6 grain rice medley. In the name of nutrition\, flavor and aesthetics\, **Chef Vaknin employs black Chinese forbidden rice and a six grain rice made from rye berries\, two types of barley\, black rice\, brown rice and red rice. There is no white rice. Beyond Sushi’s core menu is built off those grains. Why those grains? According to their website\, they each contain health benefits way more potent than plain white rice.** Purple barley is higher in protein and fiber\, and also contains the same antioxidants as blueberries. Black rice is believed to help reduce blood pressure\, and is a good source of fiber and iron. Brown rice has fiber\, protein\, plus vitamin B\, while rye berries are also high in fiber and protein\, in addition to phosphorus\, iron and potassium. Finally\, red rice increases blood circulation and contains monacolins\, compounds which help to lower LDL or bad cholesterol. \nWith vegan Sushi this good\, who needs the fish! \n**At Beyond Sushi you can find a variety of delicious and creative sushi rolls\, and sushi pieces and they make all of their own custom sauces such as Toasted Cayenne\, Smoked Pepper\, Shiitake Truffle\, and more\, using grapeseed oil\, tofu\, and veggie purée**\, all in an effort to cut down on the sodium\, which is inherent in classic sushi via the soy sauce\, another plus at Beyond Sushi. \n**Those looking to go beyond a roll will find satisfaction in their protein packed Nutty Buddy Wrap\, Dumplings and Bowls.** \n**The house-made desserts should not be forgotten**\, including the **Matcha Affogato and the Ube Cashew Cheesecake.** \nFood this healthy and delicious usually comes with a heavy price tag\, but Chef Vaknin has a different philosophy\, “If you can afford a burrito across the street\, you can come here.” \n**Check out their [menu](https://beyondsushi.com/#menu).** \nAccording to the website\, **TheVeganWoman.com**\, “Beyond Sushi offers a dazzling experience that enchants your senses from the moment you enter the premises. From the beautiful\, unique and mouthwatering presentation\, to surprising and delicious flavors that simply explode in your mouth – this is one sushi experience that you are bound to remember . . . Beyond Sushi promotes all-natural\, locally grown\, fresh ingredients that are sustainable and cruelty-free. Their ecological awareness is carried through to other parts of their business too\, including the use of reclaimed and recycled materials and energy efficient lighting in the design of their restaurants.” \nSo as not to overwhelm Beyond Sushi with our many orders and impact their regular patrons\, especially between the hours of 5:30-7:30\, **we are highly recommending that you [pre-order your meal online using their app](https://beyondsushi.square.site/)**. \nTo handle the anticipated large turn-out\, we will be taking our meal to a nearby outdoor seating area which can accommodate our group. For those of you who arrive late\, our meetup will last well beyond sunset. \n**Picnic Location (where we will be enjoying our food after pick-up at Beyond Sushi)**: 125 West 55th Street (bet. 6th & 7th Aves.) Just a short 3 minute walk from Beyond Sushi. \nSo come and enjoy the outdoors. What better way then to have a picnic on a warm spring night. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, this meetup will be re-scheduled. \n**Subway Directions to Beyond Sushi:**\n• N\, Q or R to 57th St (7th Ave)\n• F line to 57th St (6th Ave) \n***Please arrive at Beyond Sushi (62 West 56 St.) (off 6th Ave.\, between 5th & 6th Aves.) to pick-up or place your take-out order. It is highly recommended to [pre-order online](https://beyondsushi.square.site/) so as to eliminate wait time and minimize impacting their Friday night rush hour.
