DESCRIPTION:Join the [Rockville Vegans](https://linktr.ee/rockvillevegans) on a walk/hike at Seneca Creek State Park. \nSeneca Creek State Park features a 3.7 mile loop around Clopper Lake. I will make a separate event for people that want to join us for lunch and skip the walk/hike. \n*When you sign up to join\, you automatically acknowledge [VSDC’s Liability Waiver](https://vsdc.org/activity-waiver/)* \nVSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle. SUMMARY:VSDC Vegan Thanksgiving Day Gathering & Social @ Elife
DESCRIPTION:***UPDATE: This is a filled-to-capacity event. PLEASE be patient with VSDC volunteers and the staff at Elife who will do our best to accommodate those who are RSVP’ed Yes for this event\, and anyone who can be moved from the waitlist*** \nJoin VSDC for a friendly gathering on Thanksgiving Day at Elife Vegan Restaurant in Takoma Park\, DC. VSDC is pleased to organize this gathering on this special day of gratitude with our good friends at Elife. (For this year\, we are organizing a smaller\, more cozy event than our large gala with hundreds of people as in most other years.) \nPlease be sure to come hungry and order from Elife’s delicious soul food menu\, offering more traditional Thanksgiving options as well as some of their favorites – all veganized of course! Each person will order food and beverages and pay on their own to the restaurant directly. \nElife normally closes at 5 pm but will stay open until 6 pm for us for an extra hour of socializing and mingling. VSDC is planning a fun activity during that last hour. \nElife is located about 1 block from the Takoma metro on the Red line. Street parking should be readily available on the Thanksgiving holiday – please read and follow all parking signs. \nRSVP only if you’re sure you will come that day because we want to have as many people come as possible; the numbers will be limited due to limited indoor space. ****Don’t be a no-show** – if you decide you cannot come\, change your RSVP 24 hours or farther in advance if possible\, so people from the waitlist will be moved in automatically.** \n*By coming to this event\, you are indicating you will comply with the code of conduct found at: https://vsdc.org/policies* \nLet’s come together and celebrate Thanksgiving in a festive way at this all-vegan event! \nVSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle. SUMMARY:Deluxe Vegan Thanksgiving Lunch at Peacefood Cafe Downtown - Venue #3
DESCRIPTION:**Please arrive promptly at 1:00pm. There will be one seating only. Everyone pays for their own meal.** \n*****You may not RSVP for more than one of our Thanksgiving events. If you RSVP yes for this one and you’ve already RSVP’d for another Thanksgiving meal of ours\, please change that RSVP to no. Thank you.***** \nIt has long been a tradition for our group to organize a Meetup on Thanksgiving Day\, for those of us who are in the city without their family over the holiday. \nWe also warmly invite those who may be going later in the day to their family celebrations\, to start their Thanksgiving Day with fellow vegetarians and vegans. \nPeacefood Café Downtown is the newer\, sister restaurant of the very popular Peacefood Café UWS. It’s bigger & more comfortable at nearly twice the size\, easy to get to\, & has the same excellent food as the UWS Peacefood Cafe. Whether you’ve been here before or it is your first time\, join us on Thanksgiving for a delectable lunch and wonderful company at Peacefood Café Downtown. \nFor Thanksgiving\, Peacefood Cafe Downtown has a **special Thanksgiving Menu**. The Thanksgiving menu features two starters: **Chestnut Apple Bisque** ($12 bowl/$7 cup\, gluten free) or **Raw Sushi** (julienne veggies\, walnut pate\, nori\, sprouts\, ginger\, avocado) ($18\, gluten free). Or\, for $22 you can order **Raw Lasagna** (mushroom\, zucchini\, spinach\, cashew cheese\, marinara sauce – gluten free). (This is meant as a meal in itself\, or you can add one or more starters.) … **Or\, order a “Deluxe” meal (RECOMMENDED)\, a large meal of traditional Thanksgiving fare\, for $38. These Deluxe meals include your choice of four entrees PLUS ALL of the following: Homemade Stuffing (gluten free)\, Porcini & Wild Mushroom Gravy (gluten free)\, Orange Mashed Yam (gluten free)\, and Sauteed String Beans (gluten free).** These all come with your choice of any of the following four entrees\, all for the $38 full-meal price: **Pan-Seared Lemon Caper Un-Turkey**\, **Pom Pom Mushroom Pot Roast** (gluten free)\, **Stuffed Squash with Quinoa Pilaf** (quinoa\, nuts\, seeds\, dried fruits & herbs) (gluten free)\, or **Lentil Walnut Loaf** (gluten free). **(Just to clarify\, you get your choice of any of those four entrees\, plus Homemade Stuffing\, plus Porcini & Wild Mushroom Gravy\, plus Orange Mashed Yam\, plus Sauteed String Beans\, all for $38.)** Only this Thanksgiving Menu will be served on Thanksgiving. (You can additionally order from a full selection of outstanding housemade desserts\, and beverages\, if desired.) \n**Please arrive promptly at 1:00pm. There will be one seating only. Everyone pays for their own meal.** \nNYCGo.com lists Peacefood Café as one of NYC’s healthiest restaurants. “Trying to change your relationship with food? This is a good place to start. Indian-spiced chickpea fries are a swell snack\, as are the pan-seared mushroom and chive dumplings with ginger-balsamic dipping sauce. … The many facets of each dish breed indifference to animal protein. They do the same thing for refined sugar\, especially when it comes to raw cacao mousse pie in a walnut-coconut-date crust. ” \nNew York Magazine’s take on Peacefood\, “Vegan cafe/diner combo promises to please all but the most devoted carnivore.” CBS New York rates it as one of the 10 best restaurants for Vegetarians in NYC: “At this elegant upscale vegan bakery and cafe\, baked goods are made with spelt instead of flour. Even their vegan Caesar salad has spelt croutons. The chocolate chip cookie sandwich has a oozy-chocolate pudding like center in the middle of two crispy spelt cookies. Or try the grasshopper variety with a tangy mint filling.” \nIndeed\, Peacefood is also known for their extensive and heavenly dessert menu\, including tiramisu\,cheesecake\, macaroons\, brownies\, key lime pie\, strawberry shortcake\, and chocolate chip cookie sandwiches. The Culinary Society of Columbia University says: “Many of the desserts vegans must constantly deprive themselves of were there: cupcakes\, tiramisu\, and brownies. We ordered both the tiramisu and a cinnamon bun; we were both amazed on how identical each tasted to its dairy filled alternative.” \nFor those of you who have never attended one of our Meetup events: this is an incredibly friendly & welcoming group. We’ll be meeting right outside Peacefood Cafe at 1:00pm\, and then walking in as a group when the restaurant opens at 1:00pm. Everyone pays for their own meal. Easy! \n**Please arrive promptly at 1:00pm. There will be one seating only. Everyone pays for their own meal.** \n**Train Directions:** Take the L\, N\, Q\, R\, 4\, 5 & 6 Trains to Union Sq. 14th St. \n*****Please RSVP for one Thanksgiving venue only. Please do not RSVP at two Thanksgiving venues to hold a spot at an additional venue.***** \nLooking forward to see you on Thanksgiving for a delicious lunch with our wonderful vegetarian & vegan members. \nDavid

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Vegan Chili Cook-Off
DESCRIPTION:The holiday season is in full swing so what better time to have a fun get together trying some fabulous vegan food creations?! As the winner of the 1st Vegan Chili Cook-Off back in 2019 created by Lofty Hopes and hosted by Go Vegan Cafe\, I thought it only appropriate that Vegas Vegan Culinary School & Eatery host the 2nd Annual Cook-Off on Saturday\, November 12th from 1P to 3P. \nWe will have vegan “celebrity” judges from the newly released\, first of its kind\, vegan cooking show\, “Peeled”\, including CEO of Sophie’s Kitchen Dr. Miles Woodruff\, Chef Donald Lemperle from Vegenation and special guest\, Chef Babette Davis who will also be doing a cookbook signing for anyone wishing to purchase a copy of her cookbook\, “Cash in on Cashews”. Our two “tentative” local vegan judges are our beloved Lu Vu from the former Go Vegan Cafe and Alecia Ghilarducci from No Butcher. \nThe 1st place category winners will be awarded “Best Vegan Chili in Vegas 2022” and “People’s Choice 2022” plaques along with a gift certificate for a free cooking class at Vegas Vegan Culinary School. Both categories will have awards for 2nd and 3rd place along with a $15 gift card to our deli. \nHow it works: \nTo be a contestant the entry fee is $25. Sign up quickly as room is limited to 20 contestants. Then\, just bring your best chili in a large crock pot with a ladle to serve\, and we will do the rest! Tastings will be in small 4 oz cups. Please bring enough for 36 tastings (144 oz). \nTasting tickets are $15 and are limited to 30 tasters. The ticket gets you entry to receive a sample of our 20 contestants’ chili samples. You will be required to put in your vote for the People’s Choice Award winners. \nBeing a business downtown in the Las Vegas Arts District has truly brought us face-to-face with the homeless and mental health issues facing many in our city. Therefore\, we are donating 20% of the ticket and deli sales from this event to our local charity\, Project 150.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a VSDC remote game night featuring Codenames. Codenames is an award-winning word game where two teams compete by each having a “Spymaster” give clues that can point to one or more words on the board. The first team to guess all of their words wins. \nNote: the game room will be locked 10 minutes after the start of the event\, so please be on time. \nDon’t worry if you’ve never played Codenames before. All are welcome and we’ll go over the basic rules at the start of the event. There are additional details and instructions here: https://czechgames.com/files/rules/codenames-rules-en.pdf if you would like to (re)familiarize yourself with the game. Since we’ll be playing remotely\, some details and rules will be amended as needed. \nBy signing up for this event you are agreeing to abide by our harassment policy https://vsdc.org/policies/ \nDon’t be a no show! SUMMARY:Bryant Park Winter Village 2022
DESCRIPTION:I may be somewhat partial\, however\, there’s no place like New York City during the holiday season. During this annual festive period\, the streets and shops are buzzing\, the ice skating rinks are filled with figure eights\, arabesques and camel spins\, while onlookers cozy together sipping on hot chocolate or mulled hot apple cider. \nAt Bryant Park you may witness such events and perhaps even partake in them. The park is set up like a fairytale winter wonderland\, with a sparkling tree\, a delightful skating rink\, beautiful holiday decorations everywhere\, and holiday\, artist and food vendors in charming kiosks throughout the park — these do beautifully add to the holiday spirit of the place\, you will see (while you are sipping on your hot apple cider with cinnamon stick). \nWe will tour beautiful Bryant Park\, order dinner from the few vegan food vendors\, sit by the ice skating rink\, and take in the delightful atmosphere. \n**Where To Meet:** We will meet at 6:45pm right on the corner of 42nd Street and 6th Ave (the Bryant Park corner of this street intersection). I (David Greene) am 6′ 4″ will be holding a sign that says “VEG MEETUP”. We’ll be waiting on the corner till just 7:00pm\, so don’t be late! At 7:00pm we will enter the park. \n**This first holiday meetup of the year in Bryant Park will not be frigidly cold. I love going to Bryant Park throughout November and December\, but it’s great to catch it near the beginning of its season\, not having to be severely bundled up. Come check out this year’s vendors — both food and merchandise. And sit by the skating rink with us. It’s so beautiful\, you are sure to be back.** \nDavid

SUMMARY:Diwali Veg*n Lunch with Tour of Hindu Temples #FlushingQueens
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends\,\nYou may or may not be aware of the completely authentic Hindu temples that are in Flushing\, Queens NY. They are magnificent works of art and profound places of worship and centers of spiritual wisdom. They are numerous\, and several are very close together — within one or two blocks of each other. As we did host this event back in the Year 2013\, 2015 and 2018\, we received more favorable comments than any event we have ever done. People were very moved by this window on to another world — and a profoundly beautiful and spiritual world at that – we are excited to take you on another Hindu Temple tour\, again in 2022. \nWe plan on visiting (3) Hindu temples today – If time permits we will cover 2 more. \nFirst Temple:\nGanesh Temple\n45-57 Bowne Street\, Flushing\, NY 11355\nhttp://www.nyganeshtemple.org/\nTemple represents Dravidian (Southern India) Architecture – First Hindu temple in North America. We’ll meet here for Veg*n lunch @11:00 am – 1:00 pm\, Tour temple/ deities @ 1 – 2 pm followed by Q&A session with temple authorities. \nSecond Temple:\nShirdi Sai Baba Temple\n46-16 Robinson St\, Flushing\, NY 11355\nhttps://www.dwarakamaishirdi.org/\nTemple represents Shirdi Sai Samadhi Mandir(Near Nashik) Maharashtra\, India. We’ll meet here around 3:00 pm onwards. \nThird Temple:\nHindu Center\n4552 Kissena Blvd\, Flushing\, NY 11355\nhttp://www.hinducenternyc.org/\nTemple represents the place of worship from Northern India. We’ll meet here from 4:30 pm onwards \nIf Time permits\, we will cover the following temples –\nFourth Temple:\nBAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir\n44-38 Bowne Street\, Flushing\, NY 11355\nhttp://www.baps.org/Global-Network/North-America/NewYork.aspx\nTemple represents the place of worship from Swaminarayan sect. \nFifth Temple:\nOm Sai Mandir\n45-11 Smart St\, NY 11355\nhttp://www.omsaimandir.org/\nTemple represents Shri Sai Temple at Devotee’s home. \nWe will be visiting temples during the Diwali (aka Deepavali) period. Diwali is a multi-day Festival of Lights\, and Saturday\, Oct. 22nd is the first day of it. (“Main Diwali” is on Mon. Oct. 24th\, 2022). Celebrated all across India & overseas\, it is a multi-day festival spiritually signifying the victory of light over darkness. \nA quick note about the lunch at the Ganesh temple canteen: We have requested more vegan options during our visit – Food is 100% vegetarian at the canteen but not all vegan. Also\, the food is very reasonably priced compared to anywhere in New York City. You will not find better South Indian Veg*n fare in the Tri-state area. \nAfter lunch\, our group will be touring temples all within walking distance from each other – Temple tour will begin at 1 pm by Holly Ave (bet. Bowne St. and Smart St.) outside Ganesh Temple Entrance – Feel free to join us anywhere on tour\, and it is entirely OK to leave early if you need to. Even visiting just the Ganesh Temple is fantastic. \nWhat to wear: Please dress comfortably\, warm clothes and stay hydrated. As respect to the place of worship\, Please No shorts\, mini skirts and ripped jeans. Shoe can be worn at the temple canteen\, but at all locations while entering the temple\, shoes must be left outside in the designated areas (you can leave socks on). \nTrain/ Bus Directions: Take the Flushing-bound 7 Train to the last stop – Flushing-Main Street Station. Transfer to Q27 bus on Main Street/39th Ave after about 10 mins – 8 stops get off at Holly Ave- Robinson St – walk 234ft to Ganesh temple. Or Transfer to Q65 bus on Main St/ Roosevelt Ave after about 5 mins – 4 stops get off at 45 Ave / Bowne St – walk 0.1 mile to the temple. If you wish\, you could also walk from the Main St. subway station to the temple ~ 1 mile walk\, check for directions on Google Maps. \nDriving and parking directions can be found here https://nyganeshtemple.org/directions on the temple website. \nLooking forward to seeing you on October 22nd\, join us for this profound\, moving\, beautiful experience and Celebrate Diwali with us!! \nThanks\,\nKarthik R \nImage Courtesy: https://untappedcities.com/

SUMMARY:Virtual Game Night: Codenames
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a VSDC remote game night featuring Codenames. Codenames is an award-winning word game where two teams compete by each having a “Spymaster” give clues that can point to one or more words on the board. Teammates attempt to guess their team’s words while avoiding the words of the other team. If your plans change\, update your RSVP so that another may attend. \n*** \nVSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle.
