SUMMARY:All-Vegan Dinner at the New and Upscale ippudo V
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, October 22nd\, for this unique\, wonderfully tasteful\, Japanese-inspired\, vegan dinner at the new ippudo V in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn! ippudo is well-known for their incredibly flavorful ramen and this location is their 1st all-vegan one – of course it happens here in NYC! – that is also upscale and modern with a friendly staff. \n*About ippudo:*\n*- “Ippudo” in direct translation means “one wind hall”. This is because at the time in the 1980s\, there were dark clouds over the Kyushu ramen industry\, and the founder and CEO intended to “blow wind and revolutionise the era”.*\n*- Ippudo is well known for its tonkotsu ramen\, and has been described as “the most famous tonkotsu ramen shop in [Japan]”.*\n*- The restaurant group has over 200 restaurants all over the world and this particular restaurant that opened ~July 2024 was planned to be its 1st fully plant-based location. After some initial challenges and learning\, ippudo V is now all-vegan! (I have spoken to the management in detail and feel confident they understand the subtleties and have incorporated all-vegan ingredients\, including soy and oat milks.)* \nCheck out the [ippudo V menu here](https://db-ippudony-menu-qr.netlify.app/). Since this is a dinner event at a restaurant\, please be sure to order food and drink. You will order directly from the restaurant and make payment directly as well. \n**Exciting News!!**\n– Just for our meetup group\, ippudo V management is offering our attendees that evening *15% off on the entire bill – truly an exception for the company*!\n– We will also have a special out-of-town guest attending that evening – the founder of a well-known brand in the vegan movement – who will give an informal talk around 8:30 pm. So for whoever can stay\, he and I will also host a round of fun vegan trivia with prizes. \n**Train Directions:** Take the **A or C train to High St\, the 1st stop (northernmost) in Brooklyn\, or the F train to York St** and walk a couple of blocks to ippudo V at 117 Adams St in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn. \n**For our new members:** this is an incredibly friendly and welcoming group so feel free to come and meet our wonderful meetup members and friends. We’ll be in the back area of the restaurant and partitioned from other diners. \nDo bring your friends and RSVP asap! *If you are unable to attend\, please update your RSVP so we can be more accurate in our count to the restaurant.* \nWe look forward to seeing you on Thursday\, Oct 22nd!\n~~Saurabh

SUMMARY:VSDC Movie Watch Party\, Discussion\, and Vegan Food
DESCRIPTION:Join VSDC for the animal rights/vegan-themed Movie Watch Party on Saturday\, October 26\, in Fairfax VA. Socializing beforehand and discussion about the movie afterwards is planned. \nWe have gotten permission to screen Rowdy Girl: The Story of a Texas Cattle Rancher Who Went Vegan\, a 2023 film that is not yet available for streaming. Showcasing the inspiring work of Renee King-Sonnen\, after a spiritual awakening\, a former Texas cattle rancher leaves the cruel cycle of animal agriculture and transforms her husband’s beef operation into a sanctuary. \nThe VSDC member hosts’ home in Fairfax has a small home theater that can accommodate around 20 people. This regular event is a fun way to learn\, discuss\, and meet vegans and vegan-curious people (Thanks to Mindy Kursban and David Kwiatkowski for hosting!). \nFEE: The $10 fee will cover the hosts’ expenses for the event\, including food\, beverages\, and other associated costs. If there are any proceeds beyond these costs\, which we don’t expect\, they will go towards VSDC’s work to fulfill its mission. In order to ensure the success of the evening and limit late cancellations\, the fee is refundable until 5 days before the event. \nFOOD: Hot main course or pizza\, salad\, fruit\, and dessert. Everyone is also welcome to bring vegan food or beverages to share. \nWHO: All VSDC and Meetup members are invited. Bringing a non-vegan friend is encouraged. \nWHEN: Saturday\, October 26\, starting at 6:30 pm. We will begin watching the show around 7. \nWHERE: The home is in Fairfax VA 22033\, near Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. It is 8 miles from the closest metro at either Vienna or Reston (Uber or Lyft would be necessary). **For safety and security reasons\, the exact location will be emailed privately via Meetup about 2 days in advance to those who have rsvp’d Yes.** Please make sure your email is current in Meetup\, your Meetup settings allow organizer messages\, and check your spam if you don’t receive the message. \nPARKING: There is plenty of free parking within a 3-minute walk of the home. \n*You must register via this page to attend the event.* A Pay Pal account is required to pay the $10. Because there is a cost for the event\, Meetup doesn’t have a waitlist for the movie. If it is full and you are interested in attending\, please contact the host. \n**VSDC: More Than A Meetup**\nWe are so glad to have you as part of The Veg Society of DC Vegan Meetup group\, and we enjoy seeing you at our events. Did you know that [VSDC](https://vsdc.org/) is a nonprofit organization with membership benefits?\nWith VSDC membership\, you will save money at area restaurants and businesses\, attend VSDC member-only events\, and\, most importantly\, support us as a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through community building and education centered on the benefits of a vegan diet and lifestyle. \nThe membership fee is minimal\, but the impact is significant!
