SUMMARY:Bryant Park Winter Village 2022
DESCRIPTION:I may be somewhat partial\, however\, there’s no place like New York City during the holiday season. During this annual festive period\, the streets and shops are buzzing\, the ice skating rinks are filled with figure eights\, arabesques and camel spins\, while onlookers cozy together sipping on hot chocolate or mulled hot apple cider. \nAt Bryant Park you may witness such events and perhaps even partake in them. The park is set up like a fairytale winter wonderland\, with a sparkling tree\, a delightful skating rink\, beautiful holiday decorations everywhere\, and holiday\, artist and food vendors in charming kiosks throughout the park — these do beautifully add to the holiday spirit of the place\, you will see (while you are sipping on your hot apple cider with cinnamon stick). \nWe will tour beautiful Bryant Park\, order dinner from the few vegan food vendors\, sit by the ice skating rink\, and take in the delightful atmosphere. \n**Where To Meet:** We will meet at 6:45pm right on the corner of 42nd Street and 6th Ave (the Bryant Park corner of this street intersection). I (David Greene) am 6′ 4″ will be holding a sign that says “VEG MEETUP”. We’ll be waiting on the corner till just 7:00pm\, so don’t be late! At 7:00pm we will enter the park. \n**This first holiday meetup of the year in Bryant Park will not be frigidly cold. I love going to Bryant Park throughout November and December\, but it’s great to catch it near the beginning of its season\, not having to be severely bundled up. Come check out this year’s vendors — both food and merchandise. And sit by the skating rink with us. It’s so beautiful\, you are sure to be back.** \nDavid

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Vegan Chili Cook-Off
DESCRIPTION:The holiday season is in full swing so what better time to have a fun get together trying some fabulous vegan food creations?! As the winner of the 1st Vegan Chili Cook-Off back in 2019 created by Lofty Hopes and hosted by Go Vegan Cafe\, I thought it only appropriate that Vegas Vegan Culinary School & Eatery host the 2nd Annual Cook-Off on Saturday\, November 12th from 1P to 3P. \nWe will have vegan “celebrity” judges from the newly released\, first of its kind\, vegan cooking show\, “Peeled”\, including CEO of Sophie’s Kitchen Dr. Miles Woodruff\, Chef Donald Lemperle from Vegenation and special guest\, Chef Babette Davis who will also be doing a cookbook signing for anyone wishing to purchase a copy of her cookbook\, “Cash in on Cashews”. Our two “tentative” local vegan judges are our beloved Lu Vu from the former Go Vegan Cafe and Alecia Ghilarducci from No Butcher. \nThe 1st place category winners will be awarded “Best Vegan Chili in Vegas 2022” and “People’s Choice 2022” plaques along with a gift certificate for a free cooking class at Vegas Vegan Culinary School. Both categories will have awards for 2nd and 3rd place along with a $15 gift card to our deli. \nHow it works: \nTo be a contestant the entry fee is $25. Sign up quickly as room is limited to 20 contestants. Then\, just bring your best chili in a large crock pot with a ladle to serve\, and we will do the rest! Tastings will be in small 4 oz cups. Please bring enough for 36 tastings (144 oz). \nTasting tickets are $15 and are limited to 30 tasters. The ticket gets you entry to receive a sample of our 20 contestants’ chili samples. You will be required to put in your vote for the People’s Choice Award winners. \nBeing a business downtown in the Las Vegas Arts District has truly brought us face-to-face with the homeless and mental health issues facing many in our city. Therefore\, we are donating 20% of the ticket and deli sales from this event to our local charity\, Project 150.

Spoiler alert: they did not; their “shrimp” is made of konjac\, a starchy root vegetable native to Southeast Asia.” \nFor those of you who have never attended one of our Meetup events: this is an incredibly friendly & welcoming group. SUMMARY:Deluxe Vegan Thanksgiving Lunch at Peacefood Cafe Downtown - Venue #3
DESCRIPTION:**Please arrive promptly at 1:00pm. There will be one seating only. Everyone pays for their own meal.** \n*****You may not RSVP for more than one of our Thanksgiving events. If you RSVP yes for this one and you’ve already RSVP’d for another Thanksgiving meal of ours\, please change that RSVP to no. Thank you.***** \nIt has long been a tradition for our group to organize a Meetup on Thanksgiving Day\, for those of us who are in the city without their family over the holiday. \nWe also warmly invite those who may be going later in the day to their family celebrations\, to start their Thanksgiving Day with fellow vegetarians and vegans. \nPeacefood Café Downtown is the newer\, sister restaurant of the very popular Peacefood Café UWS. It’s bigger & more comfortable at nearly twice the size\, easy to get to\, & has the same excellent food as the UWS Peacefood Cafe. Whether you’ve been here before or it is your first time\, join us on Thanksgiving for a delectable lunch and wonderful company at Peacefood Café Downtown. \nFor Thanksgiving\, Peacefood Cafe Downtown has a **special Thanksgiving Menu**. The Thanksgiving menu features two starters: **Chestnut Apple Bisque** ($12 bowl/$7 cup\, gluten free) or **Raw Sushi** (julienne veggies\, walnut pate\, nori\, sprouts\, ginger\, avocado) ($18\, gluten free). Or\, for $22 you can order **Raw Lasagna** (mushroom\, zucchini\, spinach\, cashew cheese\, marinara sauce – gluten free). (This is meant as a meal in itself\, or you can add one or more starters.) … **Or\, order a “Deluxe” meal (RECOMMENDED)\, a large meal of traditional Thanksgiving fare\, for $38. These Deluxe meals include your choice of four entrees PLUS ALL of the following: Homemade Stuffing (gluten free)\, Porcini & Wild Mushroom Gravy (gluten free)\, Orange Mashed Yam (gluten free)\, and Sauteed String Beans (gluten free).** These all come with your choice of any of the following four entrees\, all for the $38 full-meal price: **Pan-Seared Lemon Caper Un-Turkey**\, **Pom Pom Mushroom Pot Roast** (gluten free)\, **Stuffed Squash with Quinoa Pilaf** (quinoa\, nuts\, seeds\, dried fruits & herbs) (gluten free)\, or **Lentil Walnut Loaf** (gluten free). **(Just to clarify\, you get your choice of any of those four entrees\, plus Homemade Stuffing\, plus Porcini & Wild Mushroom Gravy\, plus Orange Mashed Yam\, plus Sauteed String Beans\, all for $38.)** Only this Thanksgiving Menu will be served on Thanksgiving. (You can additionally order from a full selection of outstanding housemade desserts\, and beverages\, if desired.) \n**Please arrive promptly at 1:00pm. There will be one seating only. Everyone pays for their own meal.** \nNYCGo.com lists Peacefood Café as one of NYC’s healthiest restaurants. “Trying to change your relationship with food? This is a good place to start. Indian-spiced chickpea fries are a swell snack\, as are the pan-seared mushroom and chive dumplings with ginger-balsamic dipping sauce. … The many facets of each dish breed indifference to animal protein. They do the same thing for refined sugar\, especially when it comes to raw cacao mousse pie in a walnut-coconut-date crust. ” \nNew York Magazine’s take on Peacefood\, “Vegan cafe/diner combo promises to please all but the most devoted carnivore.” CBS New York rates it as one of the 10 best restaurants for Vegetarians in NYC: “At this elegant upscale vegan bakery and cafe\, baked goods are made with spelt instead of flour. Even their vegan Caesar salad has spelt croutons. The chocolate chip cookie sandwich has a oozy-chocolate pudding like center in the middle of two crispy spelt cookies. Or try the grasshopper variety with a tangy mint filling.” \nIndeed\, Peacefood is also known for their extensive and heavenly dessert menu\, including tiramisu\,cheesecake\, macaroons\, brownies\, key lime pie\, strawberry shortcake\, and chocolate chip cookie sandwiches. The Culinary Society of Columbia University says: “Many of the desserts vegans must constantly deprive themselves of were there: cupcakes\, tiramisu\, and brownies. We ordered both the tiramisu and a cinnamon bun; we were both amazed on how identical each tasted to its dairy filled alternative.” \nFor those of you who have never attended one of our Meetup events: this is an incredibly friendly & welcoming group. We’ll be meeting right outside Peacefood Cafe at 1:00pm\, and then walking in as a group when the restaurant opens at 1:00pm. Everyone pays for their own meal. Easy! \n**Please arrive promptly at 1:00pm. There will be one seating only. Everyone pays for their own meal.** \n**Train Directions:** Take the L\, N\, Q\, R\, 4\, 5 & 6 Trains to Union Sq. 14th St. \n*****Please RSVP for one Thanksgiving venue only. Please do not RSVP at two Thanksgiving venues to hold a spot at an additional venue.***** \nLooking forward to see you on Thanksgiving for a delicious lunch with our wonderful vegetarian & vegan members. \nDavid

SUMMARY:VSDC Virtual Game Night: Fishbowl
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a VSDC remote game night featuring Fishbowl. Fishbowl is a fun and fast-paced virtual guessing game mash up. \nNote: This game is best played on a desktop or laptop computer. The game room will be opened at 7:50 pm for those who need a little extra time getting set up and then locked at 8:10 pm\, so please be on time. \nHere’s how to play: After everyone navigates over to the website\, https://fishbowl-game.com/\, and puts in the code to join the game\, players are asked to write down a few words or phrases on “cards” that will be guessed later. Players are organized into teams and will alternate turns\, giving clues to their teammates to guess as many cards as possible against the clock. The 3 rounds feature: \nTaboo: Use words to describe the word or phrase on the card\, without any acting or gestures. You cannot use any part of the word or phrase! \nCharades: Without words or sounds\, act and use gestures to communicate the word or phrase on the card. \nPassword: You can say exactly one word to describe the word or phrase on the card\, no more! You’ll rely on your team’s memory and association. \nThe team that guesses the most cards across all rounds wins! \nDon’t worry if you’ve never played Fishbowl. All are welcome and we’ll go over the basic rules at the start of the event. There are additional details and instructions here: https://fishbowl-game.com/ if you would like to (re)familiarize yourself with the game. \nBy signing up for this event you are agreeing to abide by our harassment policy https://vsdc.org/policies/ \nDon’t be a no show! The food was delicious and the service was amazing! We ordered the buffalo cauliflower drumsticks (very spicy but so good)\, truffle Mac and cheese\, crab cakes\, truffle fries\, strawberry arugula salad and three types of tacos (all the vegan versions). Flavors were delicious and portion sizes were great\, perfect for sharing too! For desert we had the death by chocolate\, carrot cake and the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. All were delicious. I’m not a fan of cheesecake but the white chocolate cheesecake was one of the best desserts I’ve had. The carrot cake and the chocolate cake were moist and frosting was amazing. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was perfect and I can’t give our waitress enough praise. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a delicious meal! We even took some food to go:)” \nDima – “Absolutely amazing! The place is beautiful\, cozy and elegant! The food is fresh and awesome! Delicious high quality plates\, selection of wines and great service. Love it !” \nFor our new members: this is an incredibly friendly and welcoming group. We are a FUN group.
